I've been following ETH for a while now and every time i read here about ETH, especially lately, i read that buyers will get burned after the dump and will cry when the whales swim away etc. But check these links:

What would you estimate the odds are someone competent enough at Microsoft has fully analyzed what Ethereum can and can't do?

Could be.  I don't think it's that much of a factor.  There are far better reasons why ethereum will increase in price.

There's lot's of news.
It will be big.

Rumor is they are announcing the measurement of the ratio of the circumference of Vitalik's head to his bicep. Big ratio expected.

I think ETH is here to stay because there is a lot of tech companies after it. we will all see over next couple weeks when the new update comes.

It certainly gave a boost in price.

Sometimes things go up because they're already going up. It's momentum.   Eth has a lot going for it I guess but there are tons of speculators trading it right now.  It's fun to watch, that's for sure.

Azure was announced before Bitcoin existed and its' service is almost as old as Bitcoin.  How can a 6 year old platform, with few users, catapult Ethereum or any alternative beyond Bitcoin?  It can't.  This is all just hype and making something out of nothing.

So Microsoft's overall revenue from server products plus Azure was about $5.1 billion, the vast majority of the "Intelligent Cloud" segment's overall $6.34 billion (the rest comes from consulting and support).



That profit alone is the marketcap of Bitcoin. No it's not the end-all-be-all for Ethereum and Azure is just a small part of their portfolio but its just a big stepping stone towards wider adoption of ETH by the international business community.
