Advantage is being able to spend your bitcoins where they're not yet accepted, disadvantage is, you're trusting a company of which you know nothing about with your money.

When BTC price goes on a big up swing, I use my card to spend off a few.  Then when I see price going down, I buy them back cheaper.  A Bitcoin debit card lets you have very high liquidity necessary for good 'day' trading.  Basically, my bitcoin profits buy me and my girl dinner and drinks about two or three times a month.  Nice.

Bitcoin debit card is very good idea and it will push bitcoin further to become a mainstream currency. But the world first needs to be educated about bitcoin. A majority of the world population don't know what it is and what its use.

you can spend your bitcoin anywhere even a place which dont accept bitcoin,and you can use it for verfiying few accounts which require credit card/debit card verification, but i also see some merchant don't accept debit card transaction because they think debit card users will not going to pay for long term service just like few vps provider does,so debit card is not as easy as you using credit card and also very vulnerable to be stolen by carder when you do use it in random sites

I personally don't think so because those Debit cards (same goes with exchanges) defeats the whole purpose of using Bitcoin on the first place , I mean aren't we using because it's anonymous,low fees,decentralized  ? where is all that when you use Debit cards ?

It's only worth if those debit card companies ship those cards for free to your country as paying shipping fee, monthly fee and inactivity fee is just too much expensive. It can be used like normal debit cards but every card has some restrictions like Bit-x doesn't allow you to cashout the entire amount on the card The trusted companies like Bit-x, Xapo and Coinbase are one of the best options and Coinbase has the least fee. For me, I prefer my normal Visa card compared to bitcoin debit cards.

Bitcoin debit cards are especially usefull if you have a large amount of coins to spend and need to use services that don't accept Bitcoin.
Not worth it if you do not have that many coins, since the fees are pretty steep in general.

I've seen Bitcoin cards with fees. The fees are only zero for BitX. Other cards exist.

Why would bitcoins be defeated? It's good if we have debit cards promoting bitcoins and the purpose here does not fade as we are still spending our bitcoins but the fees are the only issue which can be resolved by more companies launching cards with a lower fee.

Bitcoin debit card is nothing but same as your ATM card or bank issued debit or credit card. The funding source alone different. To a bitcoin debit card, you can top up it with your bitcoins.

Lol first know about and talk dude. It will reduce exchange charge, forex charge and no need to find the traders, escrow or anything.  Card is this much useful one. Try for it first. I have advcash card.

It seems like a big advantage being able to withdraw money at ATMs and purchase goods online where only credit cards are accepted but the fees are too much to handle for me and negate this convenience.

@RawDog: No need to be a complete asshole.. Like tommorisonwebdesign said, there are other cards, actually most cards have various fees, cards with ZERO fees are the exception.

Plus I went to their website and checked out their fees (BitX), and there are still some fees. OP did not state if he was talking about a virtual card or a physical card, there are always going to be fees when you order a physical card.

All I said was that it's pretty stupid to have a debit card if you only have like half a Bitcoin to spend, every few dollars in fees are going to add up.

I think the company's who offer those services are most probably backed by the governments officials.I could be wrong but anything which requires your data or stores your transaction history is not innocent IMO.

AFAIK Xapo has that option too or is limited to grocery items.But still you are telling them all about yourself and i don't think there could be any severe advantages that could overcome the issues.

The advantage is that you can make transactions quickly without your computer or phone. That is really the only advantage of a Bitcoin debit card.

If a website doesn't accept btc, then you need debit card for it.

That's the advantage of debit card since it's still more popular than BTC.

I think it is a great card like other debit cards and it is quite good so enable every one to use their bit coins but on other side it is not looking that safe like other bank debit cards which are very safer enough and make all feel safe about the money. If this card is safe in lieu of bit coins then it is the best preferable.

I don't think some wallet is providing debit cards. In the services section you can find few signature campaigns providing debit cards.
Some of the bitcoin trading websites also providing debit cards for $30 or some related value.

One of the bet advantage of bitcoin debit card that i mostly like is that it can save you hours or days when you are in a hard situation and you need fast to convert your bitcoin to fiat and use them immediately (in emergencies situations)

Second - then choose the fucking card with ZERO fees!!!   If you don't like the cards with fees, it seems a pretty clever solution to take the one that doesn't have fees.  You don't have to be a crypto-guru to understand how that works. 

A bitcoin debit card can have many advantages, like cashing out money anywhere in the world without any problem of exchanging them to your home currency, and paying anywhere debit cards are accepted.
I don't know about fees as i have never used one but i would love to use one in future when i'll have enough bitcoins to be spent.

The list has not been updated since december and there are more debit cards that have been launched in Jan and feb wth a reasonable fee compared to those listed in the thread. Bit-x and Xapo are the most reliable ones though but the fee is too high.

Xapo is garbage with high fees and don't ship to US.  Coinbase (Shift) has wallet, no fees and ships to US.

If you decide to make purchases offline then it's great to have a bitcoin debit card. I plan to get one eventually perhaps from coin base so if I ever can use bitcoin for my living expenses then I would want a car for sure. I really think it's a neat way to store a couple of bitcoins at a time.

the advantage in my opionion is that you can spend directly your bitcoins for fiat, i personally use the goldmoney prepaid card from bitgold, and i like it a lot, now i'm searching for a bitcoin debit card ( whit the goldmoney i have i don't spend bitcoin but gold)

I own a bitcoin debit card myself and for me it has been quite useful as I can easily spend my bitcoins in stores that I purchase from regularly. Yes, bitcoin debit card is a good way to spend your bitcoins everywhere you wish.

I am afraid that bitcoin debit/credit cards are just distraction. Bitcoin was created to be peer to peer currency and we want to use bitcoin the way we use standard fiat.
I think it is a dead end and only slow real BTC adoption. Not to mention that we have to pay additional fees for using this cards.

But, I strongly believe, debit cards helps people to use bitcoins everywhere. We are actually spending/withdrawing bitcoins for fiat and there is no harm doing that. In near future, we are going to have bitcoin echecks and bitcoin banks which would be more beneficial for the bitcoin ecosystem.

Right now, if you have BTC funds in the wallet, you can only use it online, for buying digital products or services.
In many countries there are not much BTC ATM as well, so if you need real cash in your hand, in order to pay for something offline (if merchants don't accept bitcoin) you have to cash out your bitcoin and usually pay high fees.
Bitcoin debit card will do everything easier and simpler (to pay services and products offline).

Actually it's cheaper to withdraw your Bitcoins into your bank account and then withdraw cash from your bank's ATM than withdrawing cash via a Bitcoin debit card.

I bought a card with e-coin. And i really hate that i did that. Their fee is enormous. Not the transaction fee but the amount of bitcoin you cash.

Well with some cards you need to exchange the coins on the website first then you can use it.
There lies the problem because with some cards you get almost 5% less of the actual value of bitcoin. With can be called stealing.

If you are a Visa Card Holder, it works the same was as your normal debit card minus the fees and there are some debit cards that do not even ask for any verification. I believe these bitcoin debit cards will help bitcoin system to scale new heights for sure.

Haven't thought of using it that way, I have one for Uber, the thing is Uber rejected it. So I have a few dollars hangin on that card.

The spread is ever present.  Whether dollars>euros; yen>yuan; bitcoin>rubles; or even IBM shares > dollars, there is always the spread.  This isn't a rip-off or a fee.  It is more or less an 'error' in the stated price.  It isn't money that the bank collects.

Yes, that is true. But withdrawing bitcoins to bank account takes some time so during urgent time these card very useful. I do agree they have slightly high charges but the convince I feel it is ok to pay those fee. I'm using XAPO card and find it so for so good.

Well the actual point of Bitcoin debit card introduction is to make the withdrawal of Bitcoin in the form of physical cash with much ease, so there will be high charges equal to the exchange charges.

I don't see much advantage of it tbh, its almost equivalent of selling your BTC for fiat because anytime you reload your card, that is what happens. So instead of getting international debit cards of which you have no idea, how or what funds are being used to load them up, just convert the BTC to your local currency and use bank issued cards.

My point about the Bitcoin debit card was that withdrawing the Bitcoin to your bank issued debit card will cost you less fess in the long term than using the Bitcoin debit card itself and pay more in fees. This is just my opinion.

You're correct, it will always cost more to withdraw money from an ATM with your Bitcoin debit card than to simply exchange your Bitcoins and have them deposited to your bank account.
Also, any purchases made with the Bitcoin debit card will have more fees compared to any bank issued debit card.

mostly it's not a bitcoin debitcard but a bitcoin value based debitcard using usd and mostly converting your btc to usd, some of them are good and have decent fees but no particular advantage except being a cashout method from exchanges.

I dont like cards, for me wallet is enough. It's my wish to buy something with my bitcoins directly from wallet, to not have third party involved. Well in country where I live its still just a dream, but i can say I am a dreamer.

It's definitely nice to be able to use your Bitcoins anywhere, the downside is that they charge some pretty hefty fees for the service. If you usually only use small amounts of Bitcoin here and there, I don't think it would be worth it to get one those cards, you gonna end up losing too much money in fees.

There is no particular advantage for a bitcoin supported debitcard IMO if it's based on USD and the value is converted to USD since the fees will be even higher than typical normal debitcards... If it's a BTC debitcard using BTC then it would be interesting.

The best advantage of a Bitcoin debit card I can think of is to be able to have your Bitcoins easily accessible in your wallet and being able to spend them at every shop worldwide or withdraw them from every ATM.

I used bit-x Debitcard for a while and it's good when you want to withdraw bitcoins, It's relatively easy and direct. Not good at all both on the fees nor the fact that you are actually just withdrawing bitcoin to USD, barely bitcoin debitcard..

I can say about Only One advantage of bitcoin debit card. and this is that we can use and spend our bitcoins every in the world, we can buy things in any shopping center which accepts debit cards, and we can cashout our money through any ATM machine. that's the best part of bitcoin debit card.

I think the bitcoin debitcards are decent to use, They are not even bitcoin debitcards since they are using USD and not BTC... The fees of these cards are too much too IMO.

The fees are relatively higher than the standard bank debitcard rate, there is also no specific advantage in using them, I consider it relatively meaningless to use them since they are just USD cards with higher fees.

There is no PURE bitcoin debit cards in my perspective. All the services climbing bitcoin debit card are converting bitcoin into fiat just before topping up/loading into the ATM cards. This means you are selling your bitcoins and using fiat your loading your ATM cards.

it's wrong to refer to them as bitcoin debitcards since they are just debitcards that are charged by an exchange for your funds "that are in USD since you already sold your BTC", There fees are high since the exchange also takes a fee.

Buying a debit card is a very good option. but not countries are accepting or offering the bitcoin debit card.

I agree your perspective. Moreover I'm against using bitcoin debit card. Because with the bitcoin wallet itself we are able to spend bitcoins. There is no need of using any ATM cards to spend bitcoins.

Bitcoin debit cards have a lot of advantages like being able to withdraw funds at ATM's and paying for things at brick and mortar stores worldwide where any type of credit cards are accepted. But convenience has a price and that is the greatest disadvantage for me - the fees are too high. I hope as more Bitcoin companies emerge offering new debit cards the increasing competition will drive them to lower the fess or get rid of them completely. I think debit cards will no fess will be a hit overnight.

The biggest advantage is that you can use your BTC to pay in any shop. So btc becomes "accepted" everywhere.

Calling it a bitcoin debitcard is a wrong way in even referring to it, it's just a debitcard that is linked to your exchanger account and you can withdraw your USD balance to it "or exchange BTC to USD and then send it to the debitcard", a real bitcoin debitcard would be BTC based in my opinion.

cheap can't match well with debit card, basically debit card took fees every transaction, when you want to get a cash from your local atm, it'll charge you 3.5$ for international atm and 2.5$ for domestic atm,it's waay to high if you'd compare it to some local exchanger which accept bitcoin,but it'll become no problem if you can afford it

With the Bitcoin debit card I can get closer to my goal of dropping my bank.

As bitcoin is my main currency, I get paid in bitcoins and spend mostly bitcoins. For places that do not take bitcoins I use my bitcoin debit card.

If everyone did this, a store that starts to accept Bitcoin would immediately see a large amount of customers paying in Bitcoin and they would be able to stop paying credit card fees. Because customers are already spending bitcoins.

It is the hybrid solution between what we have now and the day when stores accept Bitcoin directly.

whether some merchant will accept debit card is uncertain, some merchant prefer accepting only credit card rather than debit card because people on the internet can buy those vcc which is the same as debit card on it function and consider it as fake card,and the main point,credit card can be charged automatically when the subscription is about expired

I have one currently I plan on using it frequently havent used it yet it's a nice way to move my bitcoins fast into $ then into the place I need it.

What I mean is You actually can not use effectively. There are very less shops which accepts bitcoins. Moreover there is always a threat of theft associate with debit cards.

Well every thing related to money contains threat of theft .There is no way you can eliminate it but you can lower the chances provided if you take necessary security steps .

The real advantage is that you can pay everything with the debit cards from the bitcoin, you can just go to a store and pay with it and that is pretty nice if you ask me right ?

I wouldn't use bitcoin debit card to buy little things in a small market because the fees aren't low as we think, I would use the bitcoin debit card as a source to get my bitcoin fast in cash in urgent situations, instead of waiting for the exchange to send the money to me.

people mostly care about the "fees" they have to pay to those card providers so they do care about the technically, for example when you can pay with something else and have less fess nobody will choose paying with bitcoin debit card and pays more fee.

I do have to say i am using a Coinsbank/bit-x card for some while and i really like it. For me that's the only card i have and will use.
Low fees and a wide acceptance.

I did not use any plastic bitcoin card til now because their fees are high comparing with my local cards fees. I used virtual cards before and their main advantage is to buy from sites like aliexpress that does not accept bitcoin.

I'm also doing this to be honest but I also have a physical one to be honest, a physical one is also pretty nice, the only downside is the high fee's indeed.
I'm now using one from bit-x but the fee's are not so high as the most to be honest, I can now pay things indirectly in real life, I really love it.
