Sapphire is SO much better. I have one of each (6870) and the Sapphire is overclocked 20 MHz faster and is STILL cooler *and* much quieter.

And that's after I applied Arctic Silver to the XFX.

I'd never buy an XFX again -- unless I was saving at least $40 -- but even then I might not.

XFX are known for da shitty fans.. easily replaced if needed.  Regardless that site to be sold out in 3..2..1..

Yes you can  get 300mh/sec from each card, but it requires first good luck with card (others can take more overclocking than others) second lots of overclocking and higher voltage.

285 is more typical 300 is if you're lucky.

300Mhash / $150 = 2MHash/$, not terrible, but not great for the Mhash/W. Good if you're desperate to expand that farm ;)

Well this thread put up about 500 but they managed to sell out in a day. Impressive. Going to be hard pressed to find new 5830s at this point.

How many rebates per household?

I typically think of MIRs as a bonus rather than part of the actual price. MIR companies have an incentive to NOT honor the rebate, not a good business model for the consumer.

So if you would be ok with potentially paying $200, then the $150 AMIR is an ok thing to shoot for. I'd be wary though.

imo you should grab any 5xxx series card that is still up for sale. they will not last long.

Sure it does. New gamers, and everyone who hadn't already upgraded to 58xx will be forced to purchase the newer 68xx and 69xx series, whether they were planning to or not. Then those cards will dry up. And guess what? We will not see any 68xx and 69xx discount sales AT ALL. They will just sell out at normal prices long before that can ever happen.

I guarantee AMD did not see this coming, they won't have enough cards.

That makes no sense. New gamers rarely look to last generation technology to upgrade. If they're cheapskates there are still 5770s. 6870s were already comparable to 5850s with better tesselation, better crossfire scaling and better power profiles. So... anyway, yeah.

Whatever. ATI 68xx and 69xx series will sell out earlier than expected, unless Bitcoin price doesn't match difficulty. (or crashes). That means higher profits for AMD.

68xx and 69xx will not "sell out", or if they do it will certainly not be because of bitcoin. It's nice to be optimistic about bitcoin but seriously, people have no concept about the scale of the world we live in.

Let me ask you this, if the network size of bitcoin is 6THash/second, how many video cards is that do you think?
Estimated Answer: If every card on the network were a measly 6870 (instead of the beefy 58xx series) that would be about 18,500 6870s.

Jan 2011 AMD reported sales of 5xxx and 6xxx GPUs had sold more than 35 million units. Do you really think that 20000 more 6870s makes any difference at all? (20,000 / 35,000,000 = .06%)

The majority of AMD's GPU sales, those that are in the millions, are low-end GPUs. Think the 6400, 6500, 6600, and 6700 series.

The high-end series 6800 and 6900 account for only a few 100 thousand GPUs. The 6990 is only manufactured in the quantity of a few tens of thousands of units, worldwide.

I'm from Poland, managed to buy it after all the 5850's were sold out on allegro.pl (biggest polish auction site) .. some guy sold like 100 of them in few days. now the price is ~157$ :)

Exactly...a better way to put it is any 5xxx 6xxx series with over 1100 stream cores.  Those are the ones selling out.
