I am hoping that since this is such a powerful cluster (the bitcoin network) that there will be a way to profit from keeping it running without Bitcoin (ie. leasing time to institutions for computation)...like I said I am "hoping"...I have no idea if it would be possible/practical/profitable.

You can just borrow some time on one of hundreds of old Bitcoin mining rigs across town at Vladimir's House and play your virtual games without the latency. ;D

guess what, all of the GPU's that we love for mining ?? they also work pretty darn good for playing games. I'm pretty sure there will always be some market for video cards on eBay.
