Title: What to do when someone tries to hijack your account?
Post by: RoughLyfe on March 06, 2016, 09:01:48 PM
I got on email today from the bitcointalk that somebody had attempted to reset my password from the IP 42.113.152.132
Should I reset my password to something more secure?

That's usually the first step that you should make. You should thoroughly check your account and make changes (security question, password, email). Additionally it might be good to do some scans on your machine to make sure that nothing is infected. Just to be sure, if you haven't staked your address anywhere it might be a good time to do so now: Stake your Bitcoin address (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0). If your account gets hacked this will enable you to ask an admin to recover it.

You should also change the email as well. Chances are the hacker will try to access you email as well. But definitely change the password.

More importantly, make sure your email password is secure.

I would actually block this in my e-mail also (blocked list)

Does the forum send such email on password change? I recently used a friend's pc to login to change my password but didn't receive any such email

I believe so if ever you receive a notification for this kind of situation and you know for yourselves that your not doing any changes in your account. You should be careful enough and be alarmed to secure your account. Make sure that you often might change your password if this is always happening and be sure also that you have a very strong password that others cannot just hacked.
