Title: User Jakers: Beware
Post by: Kalm on January 26, 2013, 05:40:45 PM
The user Jakers has attempted to scam me it would seem. He isn't responding to his private messages or on Skype. He attempted to flush this deal out for longer than was necessary, making it seem like an even sketchier situation and person. I'll update this with information when/if it comes in! Just wanted to give other honest traders on BitcoinTalk a head's up.

Boy this jakers guy just can't seem to get it together.

In his defense, as I said I would give information as it came up he has responded. Apparently he still hasn't got all of his coins in one place to send to me. Like I told him I don't understand how someone would agree to a deal and not give that little tidbit of info to the other person(s) involved in the deal.

So that is where it is. And I saw that post, BCB, which is what has lit a fire under how quickly I wanted this deal to come to fruition. Seems like maybe he's just a bit disorganized and it's costing him a bit.  :-\

Are we going to go through this every time I do a fucking trade guy? Hop off idiot.

@ Kalm, I already told you VIA PM the situation. If you want to call off the deal go ahead. But like you said VIA PM you can chargeback the payment at any given time, so I'm making sure MY funds are 100% safe to keep that from happening. Go ahead and call off the deal, I'll forward you the email from Amazon.

Jakers

You need to find another hobby.

This guy is a scammer and absolutely terrible at being a decent human being online. He has not being timely in returning my private messages, he will read them and then chose not to respond, and still has not sent the bitcoins. Although he is claiming he has to get them from several different places? We all know this is bullsh!t and it's comprabable to this user's attitude as well. He is an arrogant self-righteous a-hole who is a pain to deal with. I recommend anyone who is thinking about trading with not to do so.

I'll put this in all other threads concerning Jakers, this deal, or anyone else thinking about working with him.

http://I have had a similar experience with Jakers.  I am still a bit hesitant to call him a scammer, as from what I have read he takes an insanely long time to complete a transaction.

Jakers offered to buy from me a $25 dollar Best Buy gift card for half price (My initial forum post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=138722.msg1477557#msg1477557).  I got the card for free awhile back, and had not used in since.  I also have no rep to speak of, so trading, even at a loss, to get a decent reputation seemed like a good idea.

Here is the PM from Jakers making the request, and his reply to me saying sure (crossed this out as it was a bit hard to read it was conditional to me not having any other offers in the next 24 hours I said I would trade with him if I had no other offers within 24 hours)

Here is the initial value of the card:

value obtained from Best Buy's gift card balance checker here: https://www-ssl.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?id=pcat17043&type=page
A simple search of "Check giftcard balance" on the Best Buy site will take you to the same page.
After some time, I get this message: https://i.imgur.com/4Xt8M9g.png

I forget the exact context of it, as I wasn't saving all of my sent PMs.  But notice the time stamp, and lack of funds in this address: 1FyT3UQNRN9Ah1Bnp55LjoCNkDYqVzVfMH.

first four numbers blocked out for security stuff, and to keep myself from being accused of giving out the gift card number.
The PM's I have on record of me sending to Jakers:

Here is the balance of the gift card now:

-------

I am still hoping to get a payment from him, but thought I should share the experience I had with this user.

-------

As per BCB's suggestion.
Amount owed: 50% of $25, or about 0.7BTC to about 0.74BTC (depending on exchange rates).

Wow. Looks like he got the guy above me too.

I can absolutely co sign on what Kalm is saying. This Jakers guy is a SCAMMER.

I made a thread trying to sell my $100 walmart gift cards. He said he would purchase three at the rate we negotiated which was 12.75 BTC for all three gc's.

We began the trade well over 24 hours ago. More like 30 hours ago actually. At first he claimed to be waiting on email confirmation from walmart.com after he used the gc's to purchase new gc's.

He claims to have received the first gc code but the second two had not arrived yet. While I had no way to verify this, we agreed to wait another 5-6 hours at the most and he send 4.25 BTC for the first gc while I waited.

He claimed to be waiting on a LR-->BTC trade and that was the last I heard from him. I have messaged him multiple times only to be ignored. He hops on and offline pretty regularly.

I have the message log to prove what I am saying. I have every message he sent me and started saving my outbox messages to him once he stopped responding.

Prove us wrong Jakers.

Jakers offered to buy my Xbox code.  I replied with a question and said that the amount he offered is acceptable.  He never replied.  Glad I didn't send the code...

(Disclaimer: the above doesn't prove he is a scammer... he may just be untimely at responding)

As of right now the public perception of him is not good and he is not doing anything to help it.

I would love for him to prove me wrong though. I would much rather have have gc codes or BTC instead of being right about him being a scammer.

if jakers owes you bitcoin please update your post or add a chat log or PM screen shot of an agreement AND a link to the empty bitcoin address on blockchain.info

If Jakers has make good on your trades please post that also.

Thanks

Here is the complete chat log. I did not start saving copies of my sent messages to my outbox until I realized he was ignoring my messages and the deal was going south.

Notice at 1:05 pm he said he would send 1/3 of payment. Never got it.
Then at 1:57 pm he said give him 5-6 hours to finish a trade. I have not heard from him since.

Hmm. Jakers, what is your reason here? It's not looking good for you. This is about the 4th accusation at you in this week alone.

I have PM'ed Jakers asking for his side of the story. If he does not reply or provide adequate information, he will be tagged.

I think he's been given enough time to respond.

Verdict please?

Scammer tagged. He's been given ample time to reply and defend himself.

I think this new "Got BTC" guy may be Jakers. I have no hard proof, I will admit. But they have similar posting patterns. "Got BTC" popped up around the time Jakers was being outed as a scammer.

I also find there to be similarites in typing/speaking style.

Finally, I PM'd Got BTC "hey jake," and got no dispute. Just a smiley with a question mark. What's to be confused about? Just say "I think you PM'd the wrong person."

Again, no hard evidence, but my gut tells me I am right here. From the first post I read of his I got that feeling.

If I am wrong I apologize in advance. If I turn out to be wrong with a reasonable amount of proof and community agreement, I will transfer 0.1 BTC to the user that I am accusing.

Also I did a bit of digging and this user is using a brand new wallet address.

Nothing to be alarmed about really, but consider the following...

Read Got BTC's past posts...he definitely is not new to Bitcoin. Quite the opposite actually. So he probably has had a couple established wallets by now right? I have been in BTC for about 7-8 months now and I have about 4 established wallets ALL with transactions. So why make it a point to make sure you have a brand new wallet to go with your brand new username? Looks like someone is trying to hide something.

It's actually the default behavior for the Armory client. It is an aspect I find both convenient and as annoying as hell, but when deterministic wallets become standard on every client it will be the default behavior.

Jakers is as shady as shit, don't get me wrong. I just want to discourage confusing prudence with malice.

Also using a different BTC address for each transaction isn't a bad idea, it makes it easier to make sure that the person actually paid you and allows for more anonymity.

On an unrelated note, I think that it would be a good idea if the forum flagged users that repeatedly use an IP address solely associated with a scammer on this forum.

Hello All,
You may recall in many times I posted my trust for jakers in the past. But now that he has left he took about 150 USD + worth of My GCs with him. Just wanted to put this warning out in-case he comes back. And to revoke any Rep I may have given him.

Unless Barrow, Alaska is either a physical or proxy hotbed of Bitcoin users, Jakers aka Gia, Niann, Desertz, Farley, blupig, is still active in #bitcoin-otc (see my previous post for the IP>nick history.
