Title: New Miner - S7 / Antpool Configuration Question
Post by: mondaymorn on March 08, 2016, 02:54:19 AM
Hello!
I am brand new to mining and looking for some advice.  Everything looks good from the hardware side (I think), but I seem to be unable to find any clear guidance as to how to configure the miner, the pool and my bitcoin wallet.  One instruction says to set up 3 pools in Antpool - stratum 3333, vip 3333 and stratum 443.  Is this still applicable?  Would those be set up as different sub-accounts?  Also, I see in the dashboard where to enter my wallet address, but what goes in the Coinbase column?  Do I have to name my worker in the S7 GUI or will the pool assign a worker name?  Is specific naming convention required?
If anyone has a straightfoward guide to get an S7 and an Antpool account configured to communicate and make payments, I would be tremendously grateful for the assistance.
Thanks!!!

I really dont recommend mining at Antpool for multiple reasons. Check out "Kano.is" https://www.kano.is/. Thread:

You can use whatever PPS pool you want for failover. And Solo CK pool is a popular choice as well.

You can name your miners however you want. At Kano it would be Yourusername.whatevernameyouwant. Or just Yourusername and password X(You are obligated to enter a password on the miner config on the Antminer but it can be anything). The username is for tracking the miners individually and as such is optional.

Pick a wallet. Personally i like Multi HD. Electrum come often recommended. Any SPV wallet strongly recommended.

In Kano setting you set payout to one of your address.

The VIP you have to request and be accepted (last I heard).  So using that is not going to do a lot for you.   You will see a lot more support for other pools such as kano, which is a great pool.

But antpool does offer PPS at 2.5 percent (you don't get transaction fee's or merged mining), but still that get's them a lot of miners to use them.

Thats not bad fee considering most PPS, but i'd also consider nicehash, conditionally when the %is positive. Its not a PPS pool but it work the same way. Assuming your miners work well with it anyways. Mines did fine.

I would get going on a big PPS Pool. Antpool or F2Pool as you quickly see some income. Then as has been said Nicehash is good if you set the level at which your miner starts Mining at. kano is a good Pool, but you need to be patient, and understand the way the payment system works, otherwise you will be disappointed.

My setup for 3 Pools is.

1) Nicehash, set to mine at about 20% above the normal payrate.
2) BW.com on PPS. They are 1% fee and pay interest on a Deposit account, but a bit tricky to get going with.
3) F2pool as a reliable fall back if the other 2 Pools are not working for some reason.

With the now 1.5 day 5nd range on Kano pool its really not hard to get into anymore and with 5 blocks a day, payouts are really consistant and well... Its paid better than any pool so far. :) Overall luck is very high.

Sorry , but I would not help you to mine with antpool or f2pool
Please read this thread below

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1338693.0

and here is how I would set up a kano.is

first go here

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.0
read first few posts
then go here to join pool

https://kano.is/

then do one line on the miner

stratum.kano.is:3333
mondaymorn.1             >>>>>           one number for each for each miner
x

once this is working come back to thread. let us know

For the love of the gods, do not mine on AntPool, or any other of the SPV crap cheating pools out there.  There are plenty of good pools that actually care about bitcoin, and are run by folks who know what they're doing.  Phil's given you a great starting point: kano.  He and -ck wrote the software that your miner uses, and the pool software, too.  If you want to try your luck with a smaller pool that is trying to grow, check out mine.

most likely he won't do as i asked.

kano.is

and nicehash are good choices for him

in the first slots

you pool bravo-mining

 mmpool.org

solo ckpool

are good smaller pools for advanced miners.

antpool and f2pool i no longer like for reasons outside earnings and for  reasons including earnings.

Kano sounds good... should I mine direct or create an account?  The landing page mentions using an API... a little beyond my understanding.  Advice?

You're looking way too far into available features, just stick to the instructions we gave you. API is for devs, it has absolutely nothing to do with you setting up your miner(s). Just put your username or addy as instructed and mine on. Dont forget to put x or anything else as password.

best bet is to sign up for a user name. that will allow you to see more detailed stats vs just using an address. which if you have multiple miners will allow  you to see the performance of each.

plus its easier to ask questions when you can reference a user id vs a btc address. using an address feels cold/distant to me. but to each his own.

Looks like its mining!  Thank you very much for the advice... hashing at about 4.66.  Much louder than I expected, but hardware seems to be working well.  The 250v outlet was the time consuming part.  I have Kano ports 3333 and 80 for pools 1 and 2... any recommendations on pool 3?  Is it wise to use separate pools so that there is redundancy in case an entire pool crashes?

yes  you can pick

a solo pool like this one for your third spot

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0

http://solo.ckpool.org/

this is an all or nothing pool  but in third place spot  you won't spend much time here and you never know you could become lucky

Thanks for this thread - trying to set up my s7 but I don't see the options for load balancing that I saw on my s3's - so the s7 only can mine one pool at a time?  (this was called the "failover setting on the s3's)  Is there any way to split the hashing power between two pools?  I don't want to pool-hop if I can help it.

Thanks,
Patricia

No. the S7 is 1 pool at a time miner. You can set failover pools so if the primary is down it will jump to your next pool. but there is no way to send 2.5 Th to pool 1 and 2 TH to pool 2.
if you want to mine on 2 different pools (at the same time/or same miner) you either need to hop (very bad) or buy a second miner.

pool setup list
IE:

1) kano.is

2) solo.ckpool

3) nicehash
