Title: Custom vanity addresses [closed]
Post by: RichG on January 27, 2013, 04:46:35 AM
If you want, I will generate a custom bitcoin address for you.

Here are the rules, though:
-The custom pattern you want (e.g. 1RichG) may not be longer than 6 characters
-It may take me up to a week to get back to you

1. Please email me at ruchg1@gmail.com with what pattern you want, and how much you will pay me (min. BTC0.05), and I will reply with an address for you to pay me at (when I am done), and when you pay me, I will send you the address and private key.

2. Import the private key.

There you go!

Offer removed.

How can one be certain you won't hold onto the private key?

I goes against my moral values, and it would be illegal. I am not a thieving jerk, and I do not wish to be arrested.
I knew someone would ask that, however.

Never trust that, regardless of the rep and the guarantees.
Use services that do not have access to your privatekeys like:

https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/
http://vanitypool.thruhere.net/

Or even better, generate them yourself by using VanityGen.

You will never be able to be certain.  I'm not suggest this guy is trying to scam you, but the fact that he only has 4 posts at the time I'm reading this is a clue.

You can do it yourself: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen

Through the magic of ECC, it is possible to generate a public key without the knowing the private key. That's how the Vanity Pool does it: https://vanitypool.appspot.com/

You must never allow someone to generate a bitcoin address for you if they can see the private key.

I think it's time for another round of unsolicited vanity address generation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=56839.msg679373#msg679373)

Address: 1richgeVHVScUSBbdtqBypB4eJNmRmhoL (http://blockchain.info/address/1richgeVHVScUSBbdtqBypB4eJNmRmhoL) (in 6 confirmations: http://firstbits.com/?a=1richg)
Privkey: 5J35wmLdj9zdjDr32AfVA2m3RmRoQ7ezfRt1hb8hZ3JqcZePEMD

Some spoilsport added that privkey to Gox auto-sweep, so I out-double-spent them and sent the balance to miner fees.
