Title: same bitcoin adresses for alt cryptocurrencies?
Post by: Delawer on March 08, 2016, 03:08:14 PM
Hello I would like to know if a wallet adress for an alt cryptocurrency could match with a bitcoin adress. If I send bitcoins to an AMP wallet what would happen?

https://blockchain.info/es/address/1KYYXN4rn7W5EjdgYB9x9wST9FroGTZiZa

This mean the amp wallet doesnt reject the bitcoins sended?

Each crypto currency have there own wallet and adress. Would not be possible to merge it in one wallet you still have wallets who support more then one coin but still you have different addresses.

Your transaction would get rejected. Bitcoin verifies addresses and it's very difficult for it to accept addresses from altcoins. A quick search on Google gives you some (http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/a/16934) info.

See above, almost all alt coins have a different prefix. For bitcoin its 1 for litecoin its L for dogecoins its D, etc. There are however exceptions to this and it has happened in the past. Im not sure if this is true for Etherum though. Litecoin uses 3 as a prefix for multisig (or more general pay to script hash) addresses same as bitcoin. Thus a litecoin pay to script hash address is indistinguishable from a bitcoin pay to script hash address. The good news however is, if you have the private key(s)/needed script for one you have it for the other, so no coins are actually lost. They might just be difficult to retrieve.

There's a chance for that happening but the chance is really slim to get the same one, unless you tried to generate one using vanity address ;D
And what happen if they are the same ?
Nothing happens, because Bitcoin and Ethereum are in totally different nodes
Correct me If im wrong here, but that's what should happen in case you get the same address for two totally different coins
:)

I see you edited your post with an address. That's an address on the Bitcoin network.

For altcoins, they have their own software/wallet that you need to download while there are few wallets that can create wallets within one account that makes it easier for users to monitor all their wallets but its difficult to get all the altcoins within the same account. You can identify the wallets with the address allotted. That's what I don't like about altcoins as for each one, you need a new wallet.
