Title: Bitcoin Mutual Aid Society
Post by: kiba on October 07, 2010, 07:01:26 PM
Maybe it would be a good idea to form some kind of "friendship" society, um like a fraternity or something. Basically provide things like mutual aid, insurance, and benefits to its members and function as a way to um..make friends.

Perhaps member businesses associated with the bitcoin mutual aid societies get discount. So you might pay like 5 bitcoins every month and you'll get select discount on certain sites.

These bitcoin money would goes to insurance thingy, promotion of bitcoin projects, etc.

Building on your idea, this could be expanded to a dating site.

Dating sites have some issues with payments as they are not very anonymous.

Possible but there are inherent general gender imbalance in hackerdom.

I want to move forward with this association idea for short. I guess I'll called it the Bitcoin Mutual Aid Association.

I think the simplest benefit that such an association get is discount from business.

50% of the funds will goes to bitcoin promotion projects, software bounty and the like. The other 50% will be saving. Part of the 50% spending will be breakdown into 25% advertising, and 25% software bounty.

I think the membership fee will be 10 btc per month. Anybody who's a business owner and member of the association will offer discount.

Very simple. The next step is to outline a charter and governance structure.

I had a randomn idea for a dating site called freestatedate.com that matches single people in new hampshire with people from all over the world who believe in libertarian/agorist ideas. I thought it would be a possibility for a bitcoin related dating site .  Does anyone want to whip up a site for it?  :P

Haha, that's great, match free state men in NH with free state women from around the world. There should be roughly equal numbers.

We're talking dating instead of mutual aid?

Kiba -
I'm definitely interested in creating some more formal organizations utilizing both btc and the values/principles common to most bitcoiners.  In fact I'm half way through detailing exactly how we could create some for-profit, member owned companies.  If you like, I'll loop you in as I work on it

I think at the end of the day it's going to take some well structured, reputed, and autonomous official organizations surrounding the bitcoin community and funding its first flight towards freedom ;).

But would you be willing to join the Bitcoin Mutual Aid Association?
