Title: The fascinating reason why you occasionally see things floating in your eyes
Post by: irfan_pak10 on March 13, 2016, 05:36:22 PM
Pretty much everyone has seen those weird transparent wormy things occasionaly floating across their field of view. They always look a bit unnerving, as though some kind of bug is sitting on your eye. We decided it was time to answer the question: ’what are these things really?’
It turns out they’re called ’muscae volitantes’, which is Latin for ’flying flies’...but they’re actually not flies at all, or any other kind of bug.

You’ve probably seen these things if you’ve ever screwed up your eyes to look at the sun (or seemingly for no reason at all)

It's incredible how the human body and mind are capable of overcoming damage to the eye. Small scratches, embedded pigments or worse can affect vision. However the mind will try to display a full picture, glossing over the voids, when you look at something.

Those things are "floaters" and might be a retinal tear if they're extremely numerous or happen out of the blue.  I did not watch that vid due to my shitty data plan but I've been annoyed by floaters in the past.  Vitreous protein strands.

I get them all the time and have done all my life. Part of the business of being a human. It's time to worry when you get black spots.

There are sometime that I also see this when looking at the sky. This is somehow educational to me for most of the time I dont have a time to search for some things or study things that I can see. Well I really hope that this would not mean that I am very sick, hope not..

The OP is full of it but I was interested in the topic due to having these little floaties going on mostly in my left eye.
Got them through fist fights and a car accident and they seem to get more noticeable with age.

What I have not seen is if there is anything that can be done about them?
Not a big fan of letting people mess with the eyes but if something legit was to come around I would give it a shot.

My dad had something similar, I think there are treatments you can take but you'd have to check with a doctor or proper eye specialist first. Apparently if it is dispersed pigments in the eye the sediment should naturally fall to the bottom of your eye over time. You're right, any messing with the eye is risky and should be avoided, but any reasonable hospital can perform them safely. It's best to stick with "new" methods that have had at least 15 years evidence to go with it and can have medical trials for years on top of that.

The body for sure is a funky system when you hear about people combusting from over heating,I know its rare but damn.
Was listening passively to a documentary about thoughts already being decided before we even realize them.
They picked it up in cat scans of the brain and it almost makes you think we are not who we think we are when the bullet hits the bone.
