A 31-year-old American who says his name is Gregory Maxwell has posted a 32GB file containing 18,592 scientific articles to BitTorrent. Sharing knowledge should help drive education forward, but companies making money off these things have no incentive to help people learn if they can't pay. I'd imagine only a few of those papers were accepted for free and many of them were even charged for inclusion in the perverse incentives that have built up around it.
