Swartz supporter dumps 18,592 JSTOR docs on the Pirate Bay

A 31-year-old American who says his name is Gregory Maxwell has posted a 32GB file containing 18,592 scientific articles to BitTorrent. In a lengthy statement posted to the Pirate Bay, he says that Tuesday's arrest of onetime Reddit co-owner Aaron Swartz inspired the document release.

I find it a bit disingenuous that these archives bursting full of useful, fact driven information is being reserved for scholars or restricted to paying subscribers. Sharing knowledge should help drive education forward, but companies making money off these things have no incentive to help people learn if they can't pay. I'd imagine only a few of those papers were accepted for free and many of them were even charged for inclusion in the perverse incentives that have built up around it.
