Hi,

I have heard Xapo and Coinbase are the two best online wallets.
I just need to know if you were to choose between them, which one you will go for and why?

You can also share good and bad experiences with both wallets so it can help us decide which one to use.

Its depend on Country where you from I am using Coinbase for long time and I have never any problem in selling or buying all working very good for me support is also very active in my view Coinbase is much better then other wallets

If you like to gamble with your Bitcoin don't use Coinbase. They blocking people for gambling like you can read on this forum.

 

What are you going to use it for? Just as a wallet or as an exchange because both of them offer the exchange service, i have been used coinbase only as a wallet and it works fine, i also use their mobile app on the go so it fits my needs.

I'm not using coinbase and xapo anymore,  my coinbase account is blocked because I use it for gambling (I was not aware of their rules) and I used xapo a year ago when I started to learn and earn bitcoin from faucet. Now, I prefer to use offline wallet.
My suggestion is that if you are going to keep many btc, so its better to use offline wallet such as multibit or bitcoincore.

If you ask the Coinbase and Xapo I feel Xapo but if you are not a gambler Coinbase also nice
actually depends on your needs people have already explained that Coinbase prohibited to be used for gambling. If you use it to store large amounts of bitcoin should not use these two wallet because they have access to your account or your money.

First of all they're not online wallets, they're wallet service providers, there's a difference, with a wallet you'd have the private keys, both Xapo and Coinbase don't give you your private keys, so if for some reason their site is offline, you wouldn't be able to access your funds.

If you must use an online wallet then Bitgo might be a safer choice, although I'd recommend you to not use any web-wallets but use a desktop one like electrum/multibit/core etc.

Both are terrible shitcoin pumpers. I would avoid both. And they are not wallets anyway.

I don't use other wallet than blockchain.info usually. But i have also used xapo sometime ago i think it is best regarding all those issue of blocking account in coinbase.

I'm not suggest you to use both for your wallet, they basically is exchange service, just remember Mt.gox case, don't keep your bitcoin on exchange service. I better to use cold wallet which you can have your own private keys.

it is up to you which one to choose considering your needs.

go to their "Terms of Service" and read their rules and see if it fits your needs.
for example if you want to use Coinbase as a wallet to spend on gambling sites you will get banned according to their ToS

Depends on the services in which you are interested use them, I will suggest for xapo, in xapo because of instant transaction other Xapo accounts with no time and the other thing is that you can easily use it for gambling with no fee to send.

But Coinbase is much better and reliable wallet for bitcoin, a large number of community are using coinbase and they are satisfied with it. That is why I have kept the Coinbase as my main wallet.

I prefer Coinbase but use whatever you like.

Coinbase would be safer, and Xapo is mainly for faucet farmers. Instant deposits from faucets, etc. They support faucet farmers by using free tx fees, because it takes an hour simply to get 0.0002 ::)

I use xapo, it easy to use and there is no fees when u send coins. I never had serious problems with xapo, they can be slow sometimes but for me its nothing unusual.
Coinbase is safer wallet in my opinion, but for gambling xapo is better. U can transfer money without paying taxes all the time. Well have one wallet for storing and one for playing is best option in my opinion.

i had been use these wallet several times but now i had decided to not use it anymore because i feel not comfortable using these wallet and about your questions i guess we will find a variety of answers here because i think both are good and it all back to yourself which wallet will do you use

Have never used both because I prefer MyCelium over them. I've heard of a lot of bad remarks about both of them too - mostly Xapo. I'd suggest you to go with Coinbase because it have more reputation among Bitcoiners. I'd suggest you to go with MyCelium if you want a portable and fast wallet. Check out MultiBit if you don't mind having a downloaded wallet which will be more secure.

I think xapo is more of a novelity bitcoin wallet as if you see their website it is kind of like a gamer site.
And the ceo puts up messages as updates to users about playing mobile app games which you don't see on coinbase.
So it is up to your preference if you want serious of a gaming type site to hold your coins.

As per others replies it would be depend on how you gonna use it, for me both of them works if you'll gonna use it as a temp storage of your coin but if you gonna store your coin for good much better not to use web based wallet, and if you a faucet lovers and a gambler much better to use xapo because coinbase will banned you if found out that you are using it for gambling.

You always have option you can also have it both and try to use it and observed which is which mate. good luck to you.

both of them are bad services for me, i always prefer a wallet that i have access to private keys if anything happens i can have my bitcoins.

but if i have to choose between these two i would choose Coinbase. the services they both offer are somewhat similar so there is no difference for me there so i choose Coinbase because it is an older more popular service and i like the looks of the site.

Xapo, Inc  = a Delaware, US company who is operating financial services.

Xapo, Inc is NOT registered as money transmitter in Delaware nor in any other stare, so it is operating illegally.

Coinbase is not offering great services at all but they are...legal.

Now, it depends what you want. I saw that many people are exchanging  BTC on forums. It's your option but between Xapo and Coinbase, Coinbase is financial licensed, Xapo is NOT :)

Yes, both coinbase and Xapo are good in my experience. One of my friend has suggested for xapo to use bitcoin for gambling, you do not need to pay any fee for sending money from your Xapo wallet. There are other a number of options also for that purpose.

Coinbase is the better service. But be careful - they comply with US regulations, so they monitor where you send your coins. Don't use them to send coins to a gambling destination for instance. Just use coinbase for normal shopping and another wallet for everything else.

Yes, wallet service providers websites are for newbies only, if you have more bitcoins then go to the desktop wallets, you can easily learn about it on google and youtube videos and can easily adopt it.

I'll go with xapo. my preferred bitcoin wallet, I just love xapo because it is very secured and trusted, every time when we do a transaction xapo automatically change our btc address and gives us a new btc address for better security. I just love this part of xapo. I used both of them and found xapo is much better then coinbase.

I would say Coinbase is better. Xapo sometimes delays a transaction and also it fails o broadcast a transaction sometimes.

Meanwhile Coinbase's vault is much better than Xapo. Easy and quick to be precise.

Yes I noticed that just yesterday as well. There was a Delay in receiving even the security notification so you can sent the bitcoins in the first place. It has to be cancel 3 times before it was sent to me. Annoying when you are sent a lot of coins.

Coinbase. Xapo is for faucet farmers, who make a couple of cents a week. Disgraceful. No one should stoop down that low.

1. Coinbase does change its addresses after every TX, although this does not make it safer in any way.
2. Did you just call Xapo trusted? It's the backbone of a faucet network filled with viruses.

Why go with a company when there are better options under your control? Look at the terms and condtions those guys have published. It makes for an alarming read.

Both are good, both offer good services including xapo which has bitcoin debit cards, but both of them do not offer you the private key of your address which means that you do not control 100% your bitcoins, sometimes i use coinbase as they have the mobile client.

If you look at their TOS both companies suck. I use Coinbase but only for the wallet service they provide.
With CC i am anxious to use any party when it comes down to bitcoin.

Xapo's support is kinda bad but once i heard that online wallets are not safe because they only provided you with a wallet address no private key. When they go offline or down, you have absolutely no access to ur btc. I prefer electrum/bitcoin core

I totally agree that is true that once they are gone so are your coins. No private key accessible on Xapo site.
I recently have this happen with another site but luckily they provide a place to get your private key.

My first wallet was coinbase. I changed to Xapo and i am very happy with this decision. I think Xapo suits me better for 2 reasons. First; i use faucets and Xapo faucets are faster to claim from and usually don`t use anti-bot links and they also pay instantly. Second; Xapo is providing Bitcoin debit card which means you can spend your Bitcoins anywehere regular card payments are accepted.

So Xapo just announced that will help members decide for BTC or BCC in case a fork happens and Coinbase says it will only support the strongest coin.

I am planning in moving some funds to Xapo, seems the better option for this happening, don't you guys think?

Choices are made between two competitive items not when one is far relevant than other. It would be nothing less than stupid choosing BCC being Bitcoin user, however for miners both coins can be profitable in long run.
So this one fork can't determine Xapo to be better than Coinbase. Coinbase is much more reputable company with 7.5M users on its side.

Following the qualities and satisfaction I'll definitely choose Coinbase. In details, Coinbase fully based on exchange service, it offer also wallet and reasonable transaction.

Well base on my own experience coinbase is much more safe much more easily to use and  sometimes i am experience of buggy n coinbase but fixing after reporting delay in support but its still ok unlike xapo that their wallet is too buggy and now i can even login to their xapo wallet the verification code is delayed or it takes few hours before you can receive the code that is why  can't even login their wallet anymore well my bitcoin in xapo is just a small amount..

I think you got it wrong as I have experienced that xapo support is more better than coinbase while coinbase is not working better support wise. They do not reply to the issues that much faster as xapo is doing. That is why I will go for to support xapo in that case. They also are very good in manners and in their rules than coinbase.

I've been using Coinbase for about 3 years now. Have used to get payments from faucets and paying on steam. Service is pretty solid and I've never had to look elsewhere. I used to use the app, and it was pretty cool. Gets the job done.

Yes right, and I think 2FA from Xapo is very good, so even though xapo is web wallet but we have to install app via playstore so xapo is very safe.

Both of them are bad in my opinion that unexpected froze your account with for unknown reason and without any notice before your account get frozen. Alhough they have 2FA, their support are bad (especially for Coinbase) since they are web wallet just be prepare for the cons you would get later.

XAPO now has the latest security features that is, we must install the application on the smartphone, each we will send the bitcoin then prompted private key input. So I think Xapo is better than coinbase.

Now I'm using both these wallets only to receive dust from faucets. Both, Coinbase and Xapo aren't good to be used as main wallet. I haven't bad experiences with these services, but before August 1 I withdrawed last my bitcoins from these wallets. If I would need to choose better service, my vote goes to Coinbase. Their support looks better and Coinbase is more solid company. And Xapo have one ridiculous thing - fees for incoming small transactions.

You are right, xapo and coinbase are not recommended for use as the main wallet, I personally never use both because xapo and coinbase do not have a good reputation and the feedback on both does not make me interested to use them.

These wallets are good only if you are just using them on micro transactions and knowing coinbase its just an exchange wallet and do really have limitations once you reached it they would already require you some documents. Ive never tried to use xapo, I do use coinbase but not verified but its still okay since I don't store up bitcoins on there and do only make it as a bridge on my transaction which I can say it get the job done but there are instances that they do suffer problems but resolved later on.

I'd avoid both of them. Personally, I see no reason to use Xapo at all. Coinbase has its uses: FDIC-insured USD, VC backing in case of hacking, 0% maker fees on GDAX. But you need to be careful about how you transact. I have a policy to never send any cryptocurrency into Coinbase (you never know what they may do based on taint analysis). I only use it to buy and occasionally trade.

And with Coinbase, always calculate your tax liabilities and pay your taxes, as the IRS will be (and already has been) trying to come after Coinbase's customers. It's a pretty safe, trusted exchange, but you need to treat it like a legit broker. Not like Bitfinex or Poloniex or BTC-e.

Also, its API isn't great, for the traders out there. It constantly drops off.

Coinbase is good, i am using it about few days ago,and found it easy and good.I can send Bitcoin without free to coinbase user.its a good service for me.and i can send bitcoin to BTC wallet address also.so Coinbase is good to me instead of XAPO. XAPO user cant send btc freely to XAPO user.

Both are really good wallets but the problem with coinbase is they control our funds in different ways like i said they start maintenance work on their site during crucial moments of trading. Xapo on other hand since i started using it i never faced any issues their app works perfectly , the site is always working perfectly. The only issue with xapo is you can't sign messages and the fees for sending transactions is higher than coinbase.

Well we have different experience about xapo i was using xapo before but i was experience of delay receiving confirmation code before there are asking this when you are login before you can login plus the pin code i can't login about my account even changing browser and the supports are not responding that is why i stop using them coinbase still much better to use than xapo.. and coinbase have power to sign message but because of updating the theme the sign message option is not working anymore..

As coinbase have a third party it means someone can also control or access in your coins. I dont trust this wallet as it can be hack anytime.
While xapo, I'm using it quite but I didn't experience any major problems except sometimes the transaction is too slow and that makes me furious. Like Im being impatient with their steps for comfirmation.

I cant see any any reasons to trust these web wallets since you don't have the access on your private keys on your wallet which is really very very risky once their service collapse. I don't have any experience on using those wallets since I don't really trust on them specially on making big transactions or even keeping them even on a single day.

I always choose both of them as my favorite wallets, but I do prefer Xapo over Coinbase. Since I started using both of them, Xapo seems to be working pretty fine without problems. And they do introduce new better features before Coinbase.

For example, Coinbase never had the “Price Chart”, and Xapo was the first to introduce such live price chart feature. I sent lots of “Suggestion” mails to Coinbase that they should introduce such, which they later did after several updates.

Both of them are good, you just have to choose the one that works pretty fine for you. But when it comes to rolling out new amazing features, Xapo will always be ahead of Coinbase. Coinbase's Buy & Sell feature is not available to some countries.

Xapo is my favorite because of it's debit card feature. In my honest opinion the likelihood of there ever being a problem is slim because of additive protection.

CoinBase isn't often used by me since the buy option isn't provided in my current residence. Despite the belief about risk, Xapo has it built to my standards and I see CoinBase as a lesding service regardless of the use.

Yes because of its debit card I also like this wallet the most and the other benefit of it compare to coinbase is that with xapo we are our own bank and we are not restricted to use our bitcoin in any place while in coinbase we are restricted like if we will use any of gambling address for our coinbase wallet then they will freeze our account/wallet.
