ok so ive had a zeus hurricane x3 for about 18 months, brilliant miner terrible build quality in my experienced opinion, all was fine for about 8 months and 1 day it just started crashing out within a minute of restarting itself, so i went to check the hardware to find the modular sockets on the psu had melted :( so i did a little bit of rewiring and used the the other modules on the psu, all was fine for the last 10 months although the wires did get warm.

now this morning ive woke up to find im a miner down from my rig, you guessed it its the hurricane again with more melted sockets, so this time psu came apart and all excess wiring was removed, ive attached 8x positive leads direct to the 12v rail and 8x negative leads also direct to the negative rail, then i opened the miner to find each blade has 4 spurs for positive and 4 spurs for negative, giving me the 8x each side which i had already hard wired to the psu, and shes back alive :)

anybody else wasting electricity running these things, id definitely recommend hard wiring, 3 hours in and she is still stone cold wiring and all :)

pictures would shure help, I used to have a x6 and had this problem too...

And I still have it with some other miners so I'll take all the info you can give me :)

haha i kinda knew i would be asked for pics, unfortunately i didnt take many at all as i wasnt planning on posting about it but after id done the job thought this could help somebody out :/

crude i know but it may help, if you look to the bottom right, there are 5 raised lobes at the end of the twisted bridge, that was my negative rail in a corsair cs550 i think it is, had to dremmel them out carefully as my 100watt iron seems lost (only remove what you dont need, try to have 4 empty holes), then there are 6 more in a square above to the left which is the positive of the 12v rail, after grinding out the existing wiring, i dead shorted the green power wire into ground and made up 8 lengths of black and 8 red from the existing wiring, 2 wires per hole giving 8 live and 8 neutral, flux and a 40 watt gas iron soldered it up reasonably well

now i have no pics of inside the miner, but if yours is anything like mine it will have the same power plugs, with 4x red and 4x black cables coming off the back on each side, now the 4 red all go to 1 big bolt on contact pad, as do all 4 black and this is per blade, basically all i have done is gone from the standard of only supplying 2 out of the 4 positive and 3 of the 4 neutral from the pci-e leads, to powering all 4 independently direct from the psu

Is that on a standard 8-pin PCIe cable? The standard only dictates 2 power and 2 ground for a 6 pin, but 8-pin mandates 3 power and 3 ground. Any good PSU would have all 3 hot. You saying the PSU provided with that miner only had two live 12V wires on an 8-pin (or 6+2, whatever)?

yeah when i got the miner, it had 2 8 port sockets for power and an "idiot guide" saying to only power it with 1x 6 pin pci-e power lead per 8 pin socket, thought nothing of it at the time as it worked, until it melted the first lot of connections :(. it came with a corsair cs550m psu which seemed to handle it quite well apart from the melting connectors issue, kinda glad i only bought the 1 of these :)

I ran a GAW Black Widow, same thing as your Hurricane X3, for about a year. I never had any problems with the PCI-E cables over-heating. I am now running a ZeusMiner Thunder X6. It has been running for about the same amount of time as your unit. The ZeusMiner Thunder X6 uses approximately 525W over 2x 6 pin PCI-E cables at a chip frequency of 248 MHz. That works out to about 262.5W per cable. It has also not had any issues with the PCI-E cables over-heating. Out of curiosity, were the PCI-E cables on your PSU 16 AWG or 18 AWG?

i must say im shocked but maybe mine was defective, im not sure on the gauge at first it was the original modular ribbon for the pci-e it was pretty meaty, then after the first meltdown i switched to 18awg 2x molex to 1 6 pin pci-e which lasted longer than the original and didnt seem to get as warm as the original ribbon either but failed me again this morning :(

Well, at least you did not damage your Hurricane X3.

yeah i was careful hopefully a new script coin will come out and give us all 1 last decent ride before they become a part of crypto history :)

good new there is anytime now A4 and if AlcheMiner got there founding we will see a 128 512 with very nice at the wall power usage the 128 is suppose to sell for 1299 .

Innosilicon  is working on it's A3 and A4 not much else is known with them, i think .

I'm a big fan of script mining that's how I  started miming : LTCRabbit.com , i still use a out dated Zeus miner cyclone i molded to be very quiet when i miss it. and save those LTC and sell off any alt coin i happen to mine.

I also have a thunder x6 i burt up tying to do something and  a g-black gind seed 25 mh that sells for a stupid amount  I'm guessing because there hard to find , i just bought two used control boards for it each board cost me 20 bucks the old one burnt up one of the caps poped on the card and i got to it to late, there due here Friday and it has  4 quiet 120 mm fans push/pull over the three 90 mm jet engine fans it came with .

Just got news i have a Alcheminer 256 MH miner due here Monday there goes the power bill lol .
