Title: A question regarding physical coins
Post by: OBAViJEST on March 17, 2016, 10:03:02 PM
Can someone fill me in / share some links / drop some knowledge regarding physical coins?

I'd love to have one - a paper wallet is just...plain; it'd be nice to have something with some weight to it, like a gold bar...maybe tape my paper wallet to a bowling ball...?

The only problem is I can't really afford the more popular physical coins that are constantly being auctioned off here.  Anyone know of a decent coin (of any currency - bitcoin, dash, unobtanium are a few I've seen) that won't cost me more than I'm putting into it?  I've been trading for about a year now, but have only made about half a bitcoin...I'm but a broke college student and can't afford to put everything I have into crypto  :P

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Our regular brass coins cost 10 € per coin @ https://denarium.com. That is certainly one option. Our brass coins aren't very big or heavy but certainly have more substance than a paper wallet.

I take offense to paper wallets being plain.... Check out PaperSafe.org for "not so plain" paper wallets

You want a make your own one. Alot of these coins have the private key created by the guy who made the coin. I wouldn't be too comfortable putting a big amount on one of those.

Casascius, Microsoul, Lealana, Ravenbit, Cryptolator are a few of the more well known names and they have produced some decent quality cryptocoins. I'd avoid any of the super cheap ones on eBay as they probably won't come with a hologram or stored private key.

They are a work of art!!! .... I compare them to bearer bonds or stock certificates. Very nice indeed :D

Agreed! No physical bitcoin collection is complete without a Satoshi Note from PaperSafe! Super cool tech notes with fantastic artwork! ;D

As for a physical cryptocoin, I've always liked the Silver Wallets brand coins -- simple, shiny, and .999 fine silver. What more could you want?
