North Korea fired a ballistic missile on Friday that flew about 800 km (500 miles) off its east coast into the sea, South Korea's military said, days after fresh U.S. sanctions were imposed on the isolated state.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the missile was likely a medium-range Rodong-missile.

The launch comes amid heightened tension on the Korean peninsula with the North remaining defiant in the face of the U.N. Security Council sanctions imposed earlier in the month in response to a nuclear test conducted in January.

The missile was launched from an area near the west coast north of the capital, Pyongyang, flying across the peninsular and into the sea off the east coast early Friday morning, the South's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

It did not confirm the type of the missile. But 800 km was likely beyond the range of most short-range missiles in the North's arsenal.

I think North Korea's wants attention again. They are always doing this that causes alarm to their neighboring country.They are unpredictable,from time to time they are making headlines. Hope they focus on their economy and end suffering of their people.

What does N. Korea get usually when they act out? Is it China that gives more or do they gain from some kind of deal with S. Korea and USA!

There is nothing secret in North Korean everyday life.

They are trying to show their military power.  But their leader is crazy, so I would not be surprised if they shoot a missile at South Korea or someone else.

How many rockets are fired by US ships far far from their home. And they have right for this and you can't find anything wrong in this. Those double standards are present and they should insult intelligence of the rest of the world..

They know that their the best protection are nuclear weapons and because of this nobody will try to attack them.
So, they can play their little games, and ask for humanitarian help, and other support they need and other countries around them, like S. Korea or China and Japan, can't do much but to isolate this regime with hope that soon or later Kim dynasty will fail and that real changes will come in this country.

This is seriously funny. The Americans will be pissed with the latest incident. But they know that they can't attack the DPRK, as the latter is in the possession of several nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. DPRK is too powerful for the Americans to attack.  ;D

I am not saying that the Americans will not be able to defeat the DPRK armed forces, but the cost will be extremely high. The invading force is likely to lose several hundred thousand soldiers.

At this point, I don't believe that the DPRK is in the possession of an ICBM, which can hit the Western coast of the United States. That means you are safe, whether you are residing in the east coast or the west. That said, Hawaii and Alaska are said to be within the operational range of the Taepodong-2 ICBM. So, you will be affected, although indirectly.

Kim don't have plan to attack US or any other country, he just trying to say "we are here and we have rockets don't mess with us" Their fear from potential US intervention is not exaggerated, we can see many proofs in the rest of the World.

It is survival of the fittest. Why the Americans haven't invaded North Korea yet, unlike Libya and Iraq? The answer is that they are well aware of the North Korean military power. Americans are very good in bullying weak nations such as Cuba and Syria. But they will shit in their pants if they are asked to attack stronger nations such as the DPRK, Iran, China, and Russia.

They are not invaded because they are seeking right cause and right moment, till then they will flood us with stories about cannibalism and starvation there. I don't believe socialist system cannot secure enough food! They are modest and working hard. (Same questions can be applied on China..)

I think US is not invading DPRK because more than 95% of DPRK's population are brainwashed to such an extent that they would rather die than allow to America to deal with their great leader. Nobody wants to kill milllions of people. America invades countries where at least around 50% of the population are waiting for them to do so.

Why do you think anybody wants help from US?

I feel sorry for the people of Japan. Being in the middle of North Korea and America both trigger happy countries... can't be a nice feeling!

Not much. Their defence programs are much more cost-efficient than the American ones. Remember the F-35 scandal? The Americans spent close to $2 trillion on that program, and in the end got a bunch of defective fighter jets. The North Koreans are not that stupid.

North korean movement is not yet predictable, they always seek attention to countries in the world especially countries like the united states, and some major countries in asia.
It seems that northern Korea wants to show that they are not afraid of the power of other countries.And based on their history where north korea has passed the hard times, the economy is bad and now they have begun to achieve political stability and the strengthening of their economy so they think they are strong and deserve to be reckoned by the world. They do not want to be organized by the countries that are their enemies, they also want to show their power to the neighboring countries around them.

base on what they are doing, i can say they are terribly STUPID. so what are they planing to do? invade south when its more powerful than them and with more allies. 

they recently shoot a missile above japan. they think japanese aren't that serious with their military systems? they could also shoot missiles half way across the world and more destructive. they'd lose all their citizen if the japs gone rouge.
