Which Altcoins would you keep if you have $500?

Well, if you ask me, I'd keep $50 worth of different ten altcoins (ethereum, dogecoin, monero, digibyte, dash, startcoin, etc).

Defenately the OP's idear... between 5 and 20 different ALT's, but i'd only chose alts that are:
- at least 1 year old
- have a decent trading volume
- currently have a relatively low price, but expected to rise in the future

I don't see any point in keeping so many altcoins but that's just my opinion. Do your homework and focus on 3-5 different ones.

I'm currently holding ETH and DOGE. The first one because I want to support the project behind the currency, and the second because I think it's undervalued. DOGE can be strong, it's quite old, too and it has some big backers. I also like the fact it's one of the very few cryptos you can buy without getting BTC first.

Bitbay has the only decentralised market regardless of what others say. Others use escrow which isn't decentralised! Do your homework as Bitbay is Gona rocket up soon! And it's getting pegged to the dollar which will stabilised it's price which will attract ecommerce sites as the price won't fluxuate

I would use the 500$ for buying some bitcoins but I have to choose an altcoin I think I would buy Ethereum, Dogecoins and a bit of Monero. Ethereum in quite innovative and dogecoins are widely used.

It's less important which altcoin you choose, than when you buy said altcoin.

ETH for instance could be a good choice. But not now. If it goes down (a lot), then gobble it up and hold for next release (which I assume is ways down the road). Best bet is to pick one or more undervalued coins that have developments on the way. Then sell at the right time.

Just spreading $500 across 10 coins probably won't result in a real gain. Whatever you gain with some coins, you'll lose with the others.

If anyone here states specific coins to invest in, all you can be sure of is that person holds those exact coins and is hoping for a price rise.

I am invested in RBR, and i will buy more!

RBR RibbitRewards is an altcoin which isn’t designed to be a regular currency, but is instead intended to be used by businesses for loyalty rewards. Originally it seemed to focus on the internet retail sector, with prominent plans to create their own multi-currency shopping site at Marketplace.life. A general lack of interest and delays in getting this shopping site seem to have been the main reasons behind a huge drop in value by over 90% during a crash in 2015, and the price has only recovered very weakly from its lows.

In recent weeks, however, a series of blog posts from RibbitRewards team members (e.g. here, here and here) have provided teasers for what seems to be a major pivot. I can’t really do it justice in this short description, but basically they are building much more back-end technology to drive a wide range of different loyalty and rewards programs with smart contracts and branded rewards collateralized by RBR in addition to the ‘coalition rewards’ system which directly utilizes the tokens themselves.

This is a huge market, worth many tens of billions, and there seem to be some great advantages that blockchain technology can offer. Arguably this also offers a much easier path to large-scale adoption than most altcoins, as you are not asking people to switch currencies but just to use a different app with enhanced features for storing their rewards points.

It will be interesting to see how this tech develops and how it is used by different businesses, if it is used at all, and in terms of price: even a handful of small businesses using this technology would have to drive up the price from its current levels. With the potential to engage larger businesses, and marketplace.life still in the works for some point in the future, there seems to me to be an amazing potential for profit in this coin.

It's risky but do not think small if you can earn big ;)
Good Luck in the Altcoinnightmare

actually currently i don't have any plan to buying altcoins and hold it for long term because altcoins prices very unstable and i'm afraid it's not an good options for long term hold but if i have to choose i would buy DOGE, ETH or might be DASHcoin

Anyway, the only real worthwile coins are: Bitcoin, Dogecoin and Litecoin and maybe Yovi.

Dash definitely.  It's one I have an irrational fondness for, along with Doge.  And probably ETH based on the greater fool principle, though there may actually be some substance to it.

Everyone's problem is they fall in love with a altcoin like its their local sports team. They won't have anything said negative about it and thinks it's the best out of all the rest.
Do research on a under valued coin with Dev. Buy lots then sell when it rises, then move on. I've learnt the hard way and lost a fortune with Ultracoin but won't be doing that again.  I just sold my counterparty & now in Bitbay! When it rises I will sell! Which I'm confident it will!

NEM, Counterparty, Ethereum, NXT, Qora, Bitcoindark, Maid, ShadowCash, SuperNET and Factom.

Good selection.

Mix in some old guard too and good portfolio. I would say get $1k though so you can have enough to make it worth it if possible.

Very talented dev, but he went into hiding a few months ago and the price is near zero right now. (before anyone says it, yes, that probably makes it a good(ish) buy, but a very risky buy)

keeping altcoins is not a good idea in my opinion especially keeping $50 because the rise will not give you good profit and the fall is gonna burn through your funds fast.

just trade normally buy low and sell high two or three coins tops.

UNO, because its low issue and now very low inflation. Perfect for hodling.

Also like the standard bearers because they're well served, LTC/DOGE/NMC

And ETH/NXT for upside.

-Ethereum if it goes back to $8 (I bought at 2.2 and sold at 6.5)
-Maidsafe
-Ripple (XRP), in my opinion the most undervalued digital asset. They have ongoing integrations with banks, are working with central banks, are working on coreleasing their asset on Asia's largest trading platform (SBI Holdings), etc. etc. etc.
-SiaCoin
-Factom in the medium term

maybe I just chose ETH, I think it is a good altcoin, because so many people are buying coins, the price is also quite high, and it makes me increase profits

I select ShadowCash- has anon protocol that combines a token system, stealth addresses, ring signatures, and non-interactive zero knowledge proofs. It is poised to be a darkcoin killer. Also has an anonymous chat built in to the wallet, along with a staking mobile wallet. Encrypted voice and video chat, and a decentralized marketplace are in the works.

It would depend on your goals and the amount of time you are comfortable with money being locked in it.From the profit view I would most probably buy a coin which has maximum chances for the pump and if its long time investment then i might go for decred, ether, ltc although 500 is nowhere a good investment for them.

was this the coin xmr devs pulled to pieces lately or a different one?
