Title: Stable altcoin?
Post by: Indianacoin on March 21, 2016, 05:49:51 PM
So many altcoins popping up every now and then which makes it far more difficult to decide which one is the stable amongst all.
So can someone suggest me the most stable altcoin till date?

By stable I mean the coins whose price does not change drastically every now and then.

(Except Litecoin and Dogecoin)

BIGUP has been stable at 1 satoshi for a while but the problem is that when it breaks out of that stability the overall value will double or triple. Depends on what you want to use it for

Lately prices for altcoins have been seesawing like crazy.  There's a lot of speculation going on with what seems like a lot of money--so nothing's been really stable.  Except all the shitcoins that Yobit gives away.  They consistently have a value of 1 satoshi.  If that's what you mean, there you go.  But anything with real value?  Yeah, lots of volatility these days.

Bitbay is getting pegged to the dollar which will create stability and attract e-commerce

The best working mechanism (to my knowledge) to create a stable altcoin is to peg it via a "contract for difference" to a existing currency or asset. That is what BitShares is doing with BitUSD, BitEUR, BitGOLD and others.

Then there is NuBits, they have a more complicated and less transparent mechanism (involucrating centralized exchanges and trading bots), but it seems to work, too.

Both mechanisms are not totally without risks. A severe crash of the base asset (BitShares currency or NuShares) could lead for the peg to fail, but both NuBits and BitShares are existing for years now and are working.

I have also the theory that Proof of Burn (http://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_burn) cryptocurrencies in a mature market could be more stable than others because of its reward mechanism which favours long-term investments and automatically should lead to a smaller supply when prices are low. There is currently only Slimcoin using PoB (search the Announcement forum for it), but it's a very small altcoin for now and still unstable, so my theory still must be proven ;)

For example Dash)
At ETH even look would not be very much jumping course.
A BigUp, by and large, is a fiction.
Dev collected money for the ICO, and on the development of the action does not take coins.
Even the wall can not be put.

Stable altcoin is something like a bag of dehydrated instant water :).

I would say dogecoin is pretty stable. There was a price hike earlier this year but generally its stable and its well known and well liked its certainly my favourite altcoin.

What you prefer dogecoin? In addition its stability did not.
No development or anything.
Even when she appeared, he called it "a toy for fun"

What does this mean?

BigUp has only been growing BIGGER every day, development on BIGUP is very active and the demand for BIGUP is steadily growing

Anything that is old + good volume will be more stable because distribution is balanced. Dash, LTC, BTC, Doge, SDC, Bitbay etc (doesn't mean they won't go downhill or uphill, they just won't fluctuate as much as something that just came out).

"stable altcoin" ??

This is 2016

the word you are looking for today is "smartcoin"

Just ask Bitcoin millionaire Max Keiser:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaU_dsXTsxM#t=4m16s

Bitcoins, smartcoins, startcoin, are all pretty stable stores of value compared to most crypto.

wow that is some serious devote following taking his words like that!
hope it'll work for you.

@op try any older altcoin with big market cap; one of my personal favorites is dash, i've known it for while i feel comfy with it!
ltc's too banal for my taste but it's there, doge does weird shit every now and then but it's mostly stable.
other ppl have already mentioned many more; sooo yeah...

what i don't get is, what's the fun in a stable altcoin? you want stability why try altcoins?

spex is very stable right now for the price of 1 sat and some altcoin if you want to see some of them you can go in yobit you can see the price in the left side and you will see the channel if there's a + or - percentage of increase if you see channel 0 it means its stable..

Litecoin has shown remarkable stablity over the past 3 months. The price has been hovering between $3.10 - $3.50. The more stable the price the easier it is to use as a currency.

I used ethereum. Even if it is new coin but for me the price ethereum is stable. It is just my opinion

The most boring one is the most stable one, litecoin.
Dash is stable too, but in the past week it is slowly moving up, so probably not stable enough for you.
I thought litecoin will slowly phase out but it has been stay range bound. It does have a market, I mean there are quite a few stores a vote ltc, this is why it going to stay and stable.

I don't think there is a stable alt coin, Bitcoin is not even stable what more about alt coins. For me alt coins are like a trend, they come and go. They go out of trend and don't have the staying power.

I also looking for this alt mate, I'm trying rbies right now so far movements is still good fluctuation still normal and investor seems to like the development of this coin, staking wallet and support by a gambling site would help the coins to move and for being new I think if many casino embrace the coin it will make big impact and possible to say that it will be stable in the long run, just for my opinion OP.

For true stability, Nubits https://nubits.com/about/price-stability
Nubits is pegged to $1.

One of the most stable if not the stablest is FIMK (http://fimk.fi)

Launched 07-2014 with 531 BTC ico, no peg. Registered nonprofit association scheduled for 4 years, with 2 full time workers and constant releases. Nowadays contains extensive custom token functionality and has deals cooking with several FSPs. Massively undervalued ATM with little exchange exposure.

You welcome.

My apologies, it looks like my post about BIGUP stability was incorrect although I did also say it could end up doubling or tripling. In the past 24 hours BIGUP went from 1-2 satoshis to as high as 4 and even though it is at 2-3 right now it will likely fluctuate upwards very soon too

But like I said, depends on what you want to use it for

Yes you are right all criptos are very weak if we comes to BTC comparison, and if BTC has movements alts beginning to jump or fall without clear reason. But you know this is because there can be only one! ;)

that's the point of altcoins. to change a lot and be volatile because of the pump and dumps and help the investors make money through them.

but if you are looking for a stable altcoin you should only look at the old coins, because new ones are volatile because they are new, have small market and being pumped so often.

If you are looking for a stable coin meaning one with a pegged value (that isn't just stable by chance), you should have a look at (in alphabetical order):
bitUSD
coinoUSD
NuBits (NBT)
Tether (USDT)

Each of aforementioned has specific benefits and drawbacks, but each of them is already existing and pegged to USD.
Otheres are currently being created.
Do your own research before investing money.

I was laughing well at that before checking out your claim. You're right, very stable in comparison to almost anything. The coin's public image could use some improvement!

it depends "how long" you need it to be stable, in altcoins long price stability is to be considered rare

for a monthly range i would suggest LTC
for a weekly range i pick DOGE
long run? BTC :)

In the end, a high market capitalization is required for stability.
Otherwise, these coins are susceptible to pump and dump.
So Bitcoin is the best bet.

I very often play altcoin trading, but I very rarely see altcoin the price is stable, but I suggest to look at the statistics of the ETH, litecoin, and dogecoin, I guess increases and decreases in the price is not too far away, and perhaps can say is stable

I bought some DMD coin a few months ago. To me it is a nice coin with a stale price, however I don't see any innovation there so in the end it will be a coin like vtc or ftc
