Brussels terror attacks generate nearly 17.5 million more Google News results than Ankara car bombing

The attacks in Brussels, which killed at least 31 people and injured more than 200, have led to international condemnation of terrorism.

Media outlets have been reporting on the events since the news broke and following every update. Images showing the world standing in solidarity with Brussels have been widely circulating.

On Google News, typing in Brussels attacks generates more than 18 million results.

But, as reported by MIC, this is a stark comparison to the reaction following a deadly attack which took place in Turkey just over a week ago.

A car bomb exploded near a bus stop in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, killing at least 37 people on 13 March. The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks claimed responsibility for the attack which injured more than 70 people.

But on Google News, searching for this attack - Ankara car bomb - brings up fewer than 400,000 results.

Such a disparity in coverage and reaction has led some people, such as Facebook user James Taylor, to call upon the world to show more solidarity with Turkey.

In a post that has now gone viral and been shared more than 120,000 times, Mr Taylor, who has lived in Ankara for 18 months, said: “It is very easy to look at terror attacks that happen in London, in New York, in Paris and feel pain and sadness for those victims, so why is not the same for Ankara?"

"Is it because you just don’t realise that Ankara is no different from any of these cities?”

He then referenced a phrase that spread widely on social media following the Charlie Hebdo shooting in January 2015 and the Paris terror attacks in November.

You know Brussels is just a few hours driving or less than an hour by plane from me, while Turkey is pretty far. Naturally I'm more interested in what happening in the next country than in what happening 4000 km away. Also I know a couple of people in Brussels but I don't know anyone in Ankara. Simple enough. Isn't it?

Turkey only buys Northern Iraqi Kurdish Government's oil.

Turkey passively supported and let all sorts of scum getting to Syria in hopes strengthening the so called moderate opposition. Turkish businesses have made a lucrative profit on buying oil and stolen historic artefacts from ISIS. Turkey also did everything to hinder the self defence efforts of the kurds in Syria and Iraq.
I guess Erdogan thought he can use and control ISIS as an expendable tool for achieving his geopolitical and religious goals but now that plan backfired.

There's more media close to Brussels than there is in Turkey. It could also be argued that the Turkish bombing is down to internal strife as opposed to Brussels. That's naturally of more interest to more people.

There were 3 bombings in Ankara in a very short time. All were happened because of government-related terrorists. Government took no action against them and watched how their own people suffer and die. Fuck ISIS and fuck Turkish government. Innocent civilians died.

in my opinion what happened in both Ankara and Brussels was expected , but the terror attacks in Brussels may affect the whole of Europe which create this panic

I don't know, and nobody knows, what's happening in Turkey. Nobody can be 100% sure about their link with terrorists.
But we can be sure it's shady as fuck. And that the current president is an Islamic extremist moving Turkey closer and closer to dictatorship...

Add to that that Belgium is the heart of Europe. It was an attack not only to Bruxels but also to whole Europe.
How could we not feel more affected by an attack to the symbol of European alliance than by a far away attack in a shady Islamic country?
