I will sit out this round but I'd like to get at least 1 more Avalon 6, probably next round if Philip will do another group buy.

By the way, I figured out why my a6 was having problems, it was my old corsair rm1000 PSU, as soon as I replaced it with two server psu's, it stabilized and it's hashing at 3950 ghs. So, make sure you have a good power supply at least 1200 Watts, set your A6 at freq 500 and fan minimum 40, as suggested by philipma and others. Do not exceed voltage over 12.3, or your a6 will burn up. I had one of my Bitmain S7 go up in flames, it couldn't handle 12.8 volts, so it's normal for these miners to burn up if you overvolt it.

yeah these miners can be touchy

so this being my first group buy using btc. how does the payment part work? come Monday you say pay me X btc and then we send that? used to paying in $ so sending/paying money early didn't matter.

I try to hold the coins as little as possible.

   I do a full send of the coin to block_c
 I send block_c all shipping info.

 Lets say 5 go to me for east coast shipping and 5 are drop shipped by block_c for west coast shipping and central usa shipping.

This makes it easy for yan from block_c to do his job and people get to do small 1 or 2 unit orders.  or 3 or 4 or 5 or more.

I used to test every unit at first but then I realized I should just test   over seas ones since usa sales can get replacement gear pretty easy.

But if they are going to Montreal, Finland or U.K.  knowing I sent a working unit is helpful.

right now I did about 50 units in 3 sales all the units were good but a wire or 2 was bad.  the four pin ones have a 4 % fail rate so far

Wow, I did not realize this. I already have a Pi with one A6 running, so I really only need the A6, four pin wire, usb/four pin adapter.
Any discount for not needing the Pi, wall wart, and usb cables? If not no problem, I can always find a use for another Pi.

Might be good to have incase you want to gave the miners on different pools.  Like one on solo ck the other on kano.

There are a couple sites you could buy btc from. Or if you have someone at home have them install teamviewer on the machine and install it on your machine/phone with you. Easy way to remote in quickly and then uninstall when done.

And bitmain sends me 100.00 coupon...I guess I will still hold tight till next round of hardware.

okay I like these units  but just now I have been sent 36 100 dollar bitmain tech coupons for s-7's

I can get 4 s-7s shipped to my house in NJ for 2000 usd.

this gives me a problem   the s-7 underclocked to 3800 gh  is pretty much as good as the avalon 6  in terms of noise levels

which if I get a good one maxes near

3800 gh.  So 500 for an s-7 or 600 for an avalon 6

I am thinking I may be forced to not do this group buy.
I am thinking that buying this s-7 and downclock to 3800 is better
then getting the avalon 6's

I am not sure what to do.

I can not see the sense in the avalon 6  when the s-7 is about 1.25 btc and the avalon 6 is about 1.45 btc.

The s-7 clocked down from 4700 rpm to 3500 rpm allows fans to be set pretty low

2800 rpm.

you can lower the noise a lot and direct the hot air out of the house

so 482 after coupon and 54 shipping is 536 the duct is 48  you are at 584

the avalon 6 is 600 + 12 = 612 at best

Frankly I no longer like bitmaintech since they never made up for my batch 1 dog machine  which runs 5 to 10% under hash.

but I have a lot of trouble selling the avalon 6 at a big  premium over the s-7.

I also received a message that there will be $115 coupons distributed on 4/1/16 if you bought S7's during a certain period or to be used instead of S5 redemption on Hashnest. This would make the gap even bigger.

Gonna be a struggle for me to choose, because on one hand I really dislike Bitmain, but that price is hard to beat.

and there is the problem that I think most of us are facing. we don't really want to support bitmain but they make it hard to buy anything else as they price the competition out of the market.

My question is why the sudden generosity from bitmain. They have always been stingy in the past with discounts unless you buy in the pallet load. are the ones their are currently selling from their farms and they are trying to use these coupons to move them faster?

The game has become very hard for a 5k guy.

you have 5k to spend and 5 kwatts to burn in power.  Bitmaintech pretty much dumps on you if the gear breaks down. I purchased 19 s-7's starting with batch 1  and they basically said fuck you phil about my dud batch 1.   Worse then that they just never answered me except for 1 time and it was a simple don't ask me ask so and so.  I sent emails and posted about it more then 1 dozen times and never got another response.
    So I am trying to push Avalon's as much as I can.  So bitmaintech just kills off the price with a huge drop.
Kind of depressing.

I'm with you on that. I was all set to join in this group buy, but the new price with coupon for the s7 is just too hard to pass up.

It also made me suspicious that they put batch 15 on their website before batch 14 was even due to ship out.

Wow, I am really bummed by this development. Let us know if another group buy does eventually happen.

I now refuse to buy Bitmain S7, on principle. They used to be good, solid manufacturer. Not any more. Since S5, they've been producing sub-par miners, I'd classify them as just above junk. They have no Quality Assurance, don't believe the QA stickers on their S5 and S7 miners. Their chips vary as much as 20-25% below their advertized hashrate. They provide almost zero After Sale Service. What customer service? They laugh at your face when you run into trouble with your S5/S7 miners.

Bitmain got too big and now their head is in the cloud. Please support their competitors like Avalon; Do not point your miners to Antpool, there are many legitimate pools like kano, why do you continue to support centralizing Chinese Antpool with their bad practices like mining on empty blocks?

They did nothing for me about the s-7 batch 1.  My loss was about 150$ 

The problem is math. 

3500gh vs 4700gh

612 usd   with shipping  vs   500 usd with coupons and shipping

my failure rate on s-7 is 1 of 19 and the fail was low hashing  4400 gh vs 4800 gh

my fail rate on avalons is 1 in 11  and it was a full board    1650 gh vs 3300 gh   

  I did get service for it  but it was my error so I paid for that.

To bring all those factors it does favor the discounted s-7.

I am not buying it , but I am not buying the avalon 6  in general I am mostly just annoyed at the gear choices I have.

Well it is Easter I should stay off the site and hang with the family.
