A Cairo-bound EgyptAir plane has been hijacked and has landed at Larnaca airport in Cyprus. Here's what we know so far.

  - There were at least 81 people on board
  - All passengers released except for crew and 5 foreigners
  - Egypt officials skeptical of reports that passenger has explosive belt


Hijacker is an American-Egyptian national -- incident is over ex-wife


The hijacker is an Egyptian-American dual citizen named Ibrahim Samaha, Egyptian presidential spokesman Alaa Yousuf tells CNN's Ian Lee.

Samaha hijacked the plane over his ex-wife, a spokesperson for the Cyprus Ministry of transport tells CNN.

The incident is not related to terrorism, he said.

Also watching this from Bloomberg it's interesting that the hostages were mostly released.
Perhaps a chance of defusing the situation is still possible either way its worth watching.

the hijacked ended peacefully and the hijacker has just been arrested. it was full of Drama  ;D he hijacked the plane because he has a fight with his ex-wife  ::)
all passengers were freed and they are safe.

That was a rom com plot that went silly the next part he broke out to confess to his ex with an Adele CD and a bunch of flowers.

On the other hand pats the dudes shoulder I feel for him lol.

Well I got a happy ending all in all so i'm happy it worked out better than all the killings he-he I got a smile out of this one, that said that guy has my props he is like I took a selfie with a plane hijacker owned :)

Kind of good it was all a hoax, it seems like an obvious possibility that no one had considered before. At least now they can try to come up with a plan to counter it without reacting to a real plane exploding. The measures some people will take for refuge is crazy and dangerous. I dare say send him straight back to Egypt, but he would probably be executed which is unacceptable.

Terror on air still continues, how come he could hijack the aircraft ,it shows that when a real terrorist wanted to hijack an aircraft even with this kind of security and measures they can still hijack an aircraft, which is kind of silly.

That egyptian foreign ministry official was right, he 's an idiot indeed. However his drama with his ex-wife going to be sorted out as probably he will spend a long tome behind bars.

You imagine this guy bouncing the plan off his buddies on a night of drinking and them all saying it sounds like a good idea!
I better keep my inner asshole shut away when I am drinking,never know which friend might go through with something as dumb as this. The photo tops it all off for me.

i am so happy for its passengers but his motive for his actions is so illogical and ridiculous.. if you have some problems in your household, you must solve them with speaking not hijacking a plane ..

his motives of the hijack the place is to give a note to his ex so they should have told him that when they delivered his note to his ex. LOL
