Title: Lock / Unlock Topic
Post by: jrpatking on March 29, 2016, 04:56:12 PM
As you are all newbies, I would highly recommend you to lock your threads, if you get your answers for your needs.

You can lock your thread, by clicking on the lock topic on the lower left corner of your post. First click edit post and then follow to lock.

If you want to unlock to continue using the thread, you can unlock from the same place where you locked it.

if the OP has been to get an answer, it should be in the lock to avoid spam.
but if unlock, I think the answer from each person is different, so it will get more answers also benefit more.

Yes, you're right. some people need just an answer only. Once they get it, then they lock it. Some people need suggestions/ideas or whatsoever, that thread shouldn't be locked.

That's right, i have seen many threads where the question asked by OP is answered many times and the answer cannot be different from what each and every user have said but the thread is still going on, it is just a not needed opportunity for anyone to come and write what has already been written by many people, so it is better to just lock the thread when you think you got the answer you were looking for.

I dont like the notion of locking threads once they are answered. It removes the chance for someone that finds it later (e.g. via google) to ask a follow up question. If you think someone is consistantly spamming, consider:

#1 ignoring them
#2 report them to the signature campaign manager (if applicable)
#3 report them to the staff, either directly or via one of the threads in meta

Yes, its up to the person that would necro the thread to make sure its sensical to do so and he's not just spamming a generic answer to an irrelevant 6 months old comment. Locking the threads preemptively just mean more threads will be opened which is not ideal.
