Title: Eine Frage über den SOFORT payment services
Post by: inge on February 10, 2013, 12:17:40 PM
Hallo, Ich habe eine Frage.

Mein Deutch ist nicht so gut, aber Ich kann es sehr gut verstehen und lesen.
Sorry, I continue my question in english, but if you like you can answer in german.

My question is about the payment services of SOFORT. I'm part-time involved with a Dutch Bitcoin site, which is expanding to the European market. The SOFORT online payment service looks very promising, but how secure is it? What is the risk of backcharge as compared with the credit card transactions? Is that the same for all countries where SOFORT is offering their services? Anybody experience?

Thanks for your answers!

Inge

Are you talking about the "Sofortüberweisung" ?

This is a service from a business, cooperating with several banks.
You have to give away a TAN from your online banking account,
they use it to clear the transaction.

Even though they do not fraud (like using your TAN to make funny stuff),
it's an obvious risk you take.
Chargebacks are rarely happen, but they are known.
Consider it like "Paypal XS".

The fee's they require are pretty high as well.

I would describe it as
"a service which you make use of in hard times,
but if you got a little scope, you avoid it and use better alternatives".

Well, that's the customers perspective, I guess OP's more asking for merchants experiences.

@inge:
Bitcoin-24.com is using/offering that SOFORT service, so sending TAiS46 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=23819) a PM to ask him about it might be a good idea.

Thanks for the reaction,

Yes, it's the "Sofortüberweisung". They are the only company offering easy online banking services across multiple European countries. And they accept Bitcoin merchants.

Chargebacks are the main risk of credit card transactions, specially with an anonymous product as Bitcoins.
I understand that Paypal should also not be used when selling Bitcoins for the same reason.

Direct online banking is relative safe in relation to chargeback risk, because security measures like calculators and TAN codes are involved. When using the Dutch iDEAL system for online banking (over 95% of all online transactions in The Netherlands are with the iDEAL system, cooperation of all banks), there is almost 0 risk for chargeback. I don't know how this risk is like using online banking in other European countries. I believe the risk is much lower than with Paypal.

The real crazy part is, that they also collect all your history of your account.

If it is a dutch company, they probably can anyways accept SEPA transactions - from nearly any european country. You can find a few details (and criticism) about Sofortüberweisung on http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sofort%C3%BCberweisung

Depending on their product they might be able to let their customers wait 1-2 business days until their accounts are funded...?

yes, SOFORT AG can see your whole bank account (http://www.sueddeutsche.de/geld/zahlung-per-sofortueberweisung-ein-klick-und-weg-sind-die-daten-1.1103403).

so it's not recommendable to a privacy-aware user.
