This is based on the UK financial year running from 6th April to 5th April.

Another clue from the creator that he is from the UK  ;D

Other clues include a copy of the The Times, UK edition, referenced in the Genesis Block


And use of the English version of the word 'colour' and not the American spelling of 'color' in his posts.

although his local time shows "2016-04-05, 16:56:15" which according to google (https://www.google.com/search?q=what+time+is+it+in+UK) it is in fact 5:56 PM in UK (forum time did not go 1 hour forward for daylight saving!)

Interesting point, and article that you linked. It seams to me that he chose his birthday date by historic point in time (that Roosevelt signs two executive orders) and
not his own real date, but if it is indeed true, then by all means - Happy B.day Satoshi !

Nobody knows who is satoshi but i agree on the point that even hacker don't try to change their birthdate in making profile because it is easy for them to remember it. So i also suggest us to celebrate satoshi''s birthday.

I doubt it is his real birthday.

I guess he used it as a reference to a new 'financial period', as the 5th of April in the UK is an official tax date that marks the end of a financial period for personal tax returns.

April to April is the tax period. But you pay your tax bill in January, giving you time to work out what you owe.

I think 1975 could be his real birth year.

Would love a copy of that paper i am sure one day it will be worth a fortune, keep it safe.  Not sure i could even afford to buy it now..... ;D

The information could be not accurate, but asking if Satoshi does exist is even worse IMO. If Satoshi isn't 'exist', there would be no 'Bitcoin'.

This is very slim proof. As we all know people are using spelling correction as part of their web browser, text editing software and as far I can tell -
you can set your language to default English or American English pretty much in every writing editor. So UK English spelling correction is all it takes for Satoshi's spelling to appear British.

Who is satoshi till now its a mystery.

I believe he was referring to his identity when he asked if he exists, as in; is Satoshi N. his real name, which i believe by some plain logic is not.
In regards to info on his b.day , i wouldn't bet on it either because they guy appreciated his privacy over everything else.

Birthday to a person who doesn't use their real name and in hiding for over 6 years. If that is his real birth date then he will be 41 today. That does sound about right for a person who could of acquired so much knowledge to make such a thing as this. Very secretive individual that is certain of him.

why not? we don't know for sure that jesus really was born on 25 december but we celebrate it anyway. and the name doesn't really matter because we're celebrating the birthday of the entity who created bitcoin that happens to use the name satoshi.

Are you even sure his real name is Satoshi ? Please use valid real life implications,born of Jesus is as subjective as existence of Jesus but we believe in it either way.Jesus is deity having mythological theories which explain the relevance of life and earth.If you have a better explanation,I'll believe you. Same goes for Satoshi.

and you want a real life implications? find some place where people adopt children (forgot what they're called). some of the children were abandoned as infants and never knew their real birthday.

I do not wish Satoshi a happy birthday, if today is the day, because I don't think he would like a total stranger to wish him that, and I know I wouldn't. Birthdays are personal. They're for family and friends, strangers are not invited, and we've seen that Satoshi enjoys his privacy.

If Satoshi is a pseudonym of someone or group of people who created bitcoin,chances are this birthday date is also not right so it is not the birthday of real bitcoin inventor.Anyway if it is Satoshi's birthday, I wish him happy birthday :)

I'm going for blow this wide open. I'm from Canada. Here in Canada we spell it 'colour'. So do a lot of other countries actually. I wouldn't really say this is proof that Satoshi is from the UK.

It's a long flight from Canada to England to purchase a copy of The Times. Satoshi did indeed go to great lengths to hide his identity  ;D

I also believe that Satoshi Nakamoto is from Britain. One clue is his post time line.

I must admit this thread is very strange. It seems like bitcoin is becoming somewhat of a religion, referring to him/her/them as 'the creator' (yes, I understand he/she/they created bitcoin) and comparing Nakamoto to Jesus.

Quite odd if you ask me. I would bet anything that the person/people that ran the 'satoshi' account have other accounts on here they use to talk to all of us and might even laugh at this Happy Birthday post as it's a bit odd especially since no one knows when his/her/their birthday is. lol

@op Since we really don't have an official anniversary day for BTCBTCBTC why not use this?

If this is his/her true birthday, then it will not be too difficult to find out who he/she is. If he/she is using "colour" instead of "color", then he/she must be from one of the Commonweath countries.

I guess Satoshi was not stupid so the birthday must be a fake one.

Ok, the "certificate of authenticity" states that this newspaper wall provided from their archives. So I'm not sure why it is being used to verify anything, much less the Genesis Block, since I could call up the company and get a newspaper from any date I want, original, from their archive.

It's the other way around.  This newspaper was referenced in the genesis block.

But why use a British newspaper?

I feel this to be the start date of bitcoin technology. For this reason 5th might be considered as birthday of Satoshi. None know the true birth date of satoshi.

Belated happy day for satoshi and i think satoshi is not a one person and i think its a group. we dont know what is the real information about satoshi and they are many questionable for their group.. they are true anonymous..

Maybe Satoshi was a team. Maybe they were all coding prodigies born on April 5, 1975 :D

so this speculation about satoshi birthday was in 5th April 1975 , it is very possible.

long live Satishi. i am sure he is smart enough not to reveal his birthday to the real world, and for certain that is the fact. let us celebrate his birthday when he posted the white paper regarding bitcoin.

Except if he's been one step ahead the whole time and did this intentionally to muddy the waters and to lead people away from him  :D I wouldn't build a case based on this if I were you but I must admit it is kind of interesting. I'm pretty sure Satoshi still browses the forum from time to time, though he might not necessarily be interested in these types of threads. I mean it must be a pretty nice feeling to see how far his work/project has come and he also probably keeps up with the discussion/evolution of the code. Somehow I don't think he would've created an alt account though, from his comments I'd say he's too self-respecting to resort to underhandedness.

How do we know that the Satoshi on this site is the actual Satoshi?

No one knows if hes the "real" satoshi or not. like people already said on above if hes already hiding around 6 years ago since hes the founder of bitcoin. But i think someday we'll know whois him.
