Title: Are you afraid of getting older?
Post by: Dahhi on April 07, 2016, 08:18:19 AM
I don't know if this happens to anyone else in the house, sometimes when I evaluate my life as the year runs out and I see the long list of things I ought to have accomplished which I haven't, I get disturbed and start wishing I could remain young and not grow old.

Can someone please invent a time machine :'( :( :'( :(

There is really nothing you can accomplish that can aleviate the anxiety of our mortality, but a truly free man never thinks about death, or his decomposing on the way towards it.

No. You can influence it or change it, so why worry about it? If you are satisfied with your life and yourself then you probably wouldn't be scared of getting old(er).

All you do when you ponder on the past and what you have not completed, is waste more time of the present not completing even more.  There is nothing you can do about the past but learn from it and change it.  None of us are getting out of this mess alive and once you come to that realization, all you can do is make the best of it and make life better for those you leave behind.

Being old is going to be the new black. Take a look at the drug ads and adult diapers, just getting warmed up for the baby boomer bulge.

Not getting older is a much bigger problem than getting older. As long as you keep getting older every day, you are still alive :-\
So no, I am not afraid of it. Plus, being a guy you become more attractive getting older. :o

Title: Re: Are you afraid of getting older?
Post by: willope on April 08, 2016, 12:04:51 PM
For me it's not the fact of becoming older. I'm only worried to have a confortable life when I'll be too old to work hard or to think and do plans of the future. I just want to be happy and to have a big family, and not to be alone anymore. If I acomplish that I'll be ready even to die without remorse.
Now I am 25 so I still have time.

I'm officially getting older now. I can't say I'm noticing or feeling anything physically different but I do seem to be going bald which is really getting on my tits as my hair didn't budge a milimetre for the first 40 years. There are no wrinkles or grey hairs though.

I think the key to making the best of it is to keep refreshing. Stuff that was the pillar of your life in the past dies or fades away. You need to continue creating good things in your life, not looking back and whining and pining.

And pay some attention to that body of yours. Once you're past a certain age mother nature no longer has any use for you and she'll let you know it.

I really don't get people who fear death. All your problems are over. I couldn't give a shit if I died tomorrow. I desperately give a shit if it's gonna hurt.

the fastest you get old and deformed (Plastic Surgery doesn't help). So just go with your life until the end.  :)

I am afraid not to get old because that means either I have a disease/disability in my genes or I died in an early age. Nevertheless, you should not be afraid to get old because your friends will also get old and you guys can make fun of the changes in your body.

PS: Try watching the movie 'The Age of Adeline', it's a movie about staying young and living for a long time.

Who is not, I am not interested in celebrating birthdays and to be honest I never was . I am not willing to celebrate my upcoming birthday which is somewhere near mid of this April . But this is fate of every human in the world . Everyone is living just to die someday , still no one cares about it . This is called Spirit of Life .

Yeah, getting old is a bit scary to even think about. What is scary about it is that, once you are old you get the feeling or are rather reminded that you won't live forever. The more you age the more you get closer to the grave. I think that is the scary part.

if you talk with the elderly they say that it just gets better and better, but after the age of 80 or if you becoming ill, it's not funny anymore.

Scientists are actually studying what you stated as people seem to have less fear of death as they age and they think it may be biological thing.
As some one that decided not to have kids listening to friends talk about their grandparents losing their grip on reality has made me ponder what I will do when I reach this point in life. There is a old guy that I talk to every day as he walks his dog and he is on his second wife, telling me how he was on the floor for 7 hours and could not get up.
I mean stubborn bugger would not call for help but it shows you need people to support you or who knows.
One of my coworkers dad slipped in the shower and bashed is leg hard enough to smash the tiles and sliced open his toe. These things get critical as you get older and I worry that I will lose that edge of knowing I am still in this world and float into dementia. Rather pull the plug before it gets that bad and drug overdose used to be the plan.

OK, I'm not "old", but I've definitely seen the first signs of change, physically, in my life. For instance, I had a car wreck a couple of years ago, and it caused tissue damage in my knee. Now my knee hurts whenever it is getting ready to rain. That statement wreaks of my Grandmother. Also, my hands are starting to look a little more "vainy". Not too bad, but I can tell a bit of difference. I am blond, so I haven't seen any gray hairs yet, but I have noticed a change in my feet. They are suddenly really dry like my mother's used to be.

37-43 Is my guess with the issues you mention.
I have no gray hair yet but my beard has a ton.
The hand thing is something that bugs me too, sun damage is also more obvious.

There is no reason to fear getting older.  You are just wasting your time thinking about it instead of gettin gout there and living life.  Why fear what you can not control.  I am happy at my age and I live each day to the fullest.

But truth be told that this is an actual personality disorder and is actually acknowledged by DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). See Gerascophobia, and there are big celebrities out there who's suffering from this, Meg Ryan, Madonna etc.

Well... I'm not worried about that, because all my metas in life have been acomplished.

Some of them were about very different things, all important, and I think I'm ready to die tomorrow, because I know there is a future for my owns with what I've given yet. Then, if my life continues, all will be an extra time to get happier living new experiences always with the correct people.

If you work well there will be no problem about all that, for sure  ;D

Who wants to get old? Even technology is finding ways to make man look young. For me, now that I am a parent, I'm afraid of getting old because I don't want my children to get old. I just want to shield them from all the violence around. I just want them to be forever babies, where all they is eat and play. I don't want them to be trying stuffs that is bad for them. That's why I don't want to get old because I want to be there to protect them from harm.

I think what's normally scary about getting older is the notion that you're close to dying. I don't think anyone should be afraid of getting older though, because as one ages, he accumulates wisdom and experiences and he understands and appreciate life more. There's nothing to be afraid of getting old, life is a one time ride that needs to be enjoyed :D

I am more afraid of a meteor slamming into us.

3 days ago we had a 6m cruse by us at 0.2LD (Lunar Distance / Distance to the moon)

Source = Chart on here.. http://www.spaceweather.com/
or..
http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2016%20LP10&orb=1

How do you all think we found out about Aphosis back in 2004 ?
We found out because it shot past us in between us & the moon.
It later got the highest Torino scale warning in history.
..they have downplayed it a lot since but i wonder if it's to placate the masses.
Supposedly if it hits our gravitational "Keyhole" next time it comes back we are screwed.

im afraid of having more responsibilities.

Don't burden yourself with any then.

I know plenty of people who are 'blessed' with wonderful things like children, wives and mortgages. None of that has ever computed for me and I can and indeed have disappeared halfway around the world for multiple months with an hours' notice.

None of these people can give me a convincing reason why I should chuck my freedom away. And not too many seem remotely happy either.

:) With aging and fear of death is convened. That is not important. The important thing is as you approach the end of the road and look back, you can tell yourself that you do not regret anything and not be ashamed of anything.

Of course who isn't? It's terrifying to know that no matter who you are
or what you do some day you will just cease to exist.

The second you're born, you start dying

Problem is when you start to get there (old age)
..you become jaded / opinionated and possibly a cranky old curmudgeon.

You kids have no fucking clue what you are talking about here on this topic.. you really don't.
If you see what i am posting here when your an old coot you will smile and say "i get it" ;)

I was just in my yard doing stuff and i was muttering shit under my breath all cranky like..
PEOPLE !

People have been screwing with my shit and it infuriates me !
Which is why they were doing it.. antagonists.

So.. when you are younger that shit rolls off your back far quicker.
When you get older you just want to choke a bitch out. LOL

I hate people they are morons.
They are dirty cocky mouthy lazy hypocrites that run their mouth about stuff they don't know about.
And YES my generation was not as bad !
I actually believe when i was a kid we were far more respectful of our elders.
We actually shut our damn mouth and LISTENED !

I would not "fear" dying of old age if that is what this topic turned into or was intended to be about.
Is this about the fear of Old Age or dying ?

I had always looked forward to old-age growing up because PEOPLE irritated the hell out of me.
I never got lonely ..i over time deliberately desired less friends.
I laugh when people cry they are lonely  :'(
Me ?
Being by myself is devine bliss.. solitude !

ahh serenity. LOL

Why should we get afraid of becoming older ?Actually everyone except the ones who dies in the early stage, faces the old age stage..We should enjoy each and every minute of our life and dont get afraid of old age or even death because you know that you will surely face the old age or die one day..

I dont actually worry but yes I am concerned about that, I take balanced diet to avoid getting that time any soon.

But we are getting older every time. every single moment we are getting older. Or even tomorrow we will get older.. 1 day old right? It's funny to talk to this topic like this but absolutely all of us are afraid of getting older. Because there is no permanent.

I guess what you mean is that you have not achieved your dreams at the age you want to achieve them, so you want to go back and do those things you wish you had done back then, trying to correct past mistakes.

You can't go back but you can stop yourself from repeating past mistakes.

HELL NO !

I have been waiting to get old since i was a child.
I am turning 41 this year and hell ya boooooi i got this biaaaatch !

Mid-life crisis hahah fuck nooooo gaaaaay

What the hell can i not do now that i couldn't when i was younger?

I can still easily pick up some hot piece of ass but now i know what to do with them LOL
Fuck being younger.. younger you are the dumber you are simple.

Afraid of death? no... why your brain gets tired of the concept.
A meteor could drop on your head any second but can you sit there and stress about it?
You could try but you would forget LOL

Basically Spoetnik is right. Fear of death is way too overrated.
What is life, consciousness anyway? You cannot define death if you cannot define these principles.

Time is everything. and it's inevitable.
Grow old, share your experiences with those people you love, and you'll be okay with getting old, as long as those experiences continue.
know what I mean?

Title: Re: Are you afraid of getting older?

I think, fear of getting older in some way is exaggerated. People, you every single moment are getting older and older, but somehow you realize it only in such moments as now. If aging doesn't worry you most time of your life since you don't think about it, why it should worry you in such parts of your life, when you're thinking about your aging. Moreover, who said that aging is something bad? Maybe it is the only way to become younger, but in another strange sense. I mean, everybody wants to be young, but only few noticed that in old age we somehow are similar to very young. Like Nietzsche said, eternal recurrence of the same.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else in the house, sometimes when I evaluate my life as the year runs out and I see the long list of things I ought to have accomplished which I haven't, I get disturbed and start wishing I could remain young and not grow old.

I'm not afraid of getting older, what I'm afraid of is when I'm getting older without single money and investment, and also it's inevitable, and everyone grows old sooner or later.  That's the cycle of life, and no one has managed to change or stop it yet.

What is th definition of "old"?

if its just the age, then age is just a number. Time is not in anyone's control so why even think about it.
if by old u mean generation, then i try to keep up with current technology and all. I hav kept my mind inquisitiv enough, so im not afraid of gettin old.

No, i just don't like that my parents getting older.

Yeah, this was pinnacle to my one true realization of getting older. I spent my late teens and my 20s in the military. The only relevant part of this bit of information is that I was always treated like a child. No matter what my rank, there was always someone over me to make me feel as if I had no control over anything. When I got out, I didnt feel 30 mentally, I felt 30 physically but my mentality was not there. I moved away from my parents a while ago and only get to see them once every two years or so and its these visits that really make me realize how old I actually am.

But I don't hate being older. I am as successful as I let myself be. I graduated college and became a teacher. Got married and had kids. At this point in my life I dont focus my age but on the age of my children. Watching them grow and learn is where its really at.

No I'm not, getting older is the natural way of life, you must afraid if you are not getting older because you must die young (just joking).
Several studies have shown that older people have more and better sex than you might think. A study of the sexual activity and satisfaction of women in their 80s found that half still had orgasms ‘always’ or ‘most of the time’ during sex. Other studies have reached similarly striking conclusions a survey of people over the age of 60 found that 74% of men and 70% of women reported a greater sexual satisfaction than when they were in their 40s.

I am old. And I am not afraid of it. That is because I have spent a good percentage of my time/life learning how to open up to everything I feel (even the pain and fear), and learning how to relax into it.
Yes, fear happens but when it happens it does not push me around because I relax into it.

I am not afraid in getting older because it is part of your life but I am afraid of doing nothing to raise my family into a comfortable life as I am getting older. So if you are younger do not give up for every problems because if you give up you will be in the despair if you are getting older.
