Title: Newbie limit for private messages
Post by: ElMoIsEviL on April 08, 2016, 02:48:55 PM
Why this limit is still active the posting 360s/post I understand to avoid any spam, but why does it still need to be 5 private message per hour let's say you doing some deal via private message it's just annoying for the newbie.
If this have been discussed before, sorry for this

The limit is to avoid mass PM spamming using newbie accounts.

More power to the Newbies, please.

Seriously though, there should just be a block option.

you can block PMs from this page (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=pmprefs) if that's what you're talking about.

as for the limit, maybe enabling newbies to pay to increase the limit would help.

Basically this.

Seriously though, there should just be a block option.

That's a solution when 1 newbie (without limits) is spamming 1 member.
Now take 1 newbie spamming a PM to 100 members, or more.

More power to the Newbies, please.
Less power to the Newbies, for the love of god, please.

Btw, the waittime is not only in place for (low activity) newbies, but it's there for each and everyone of us (including posts, PMs and even reports iirc).

Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

We were all newbies once, the rules in place are there for a reason. Why do you have a problem with them & why do you need to send PM's really quickly to multiple people any way?

If someone is a newbie status and dealing with more the 5 per hour sadly in most cases there is a scam/spam reason.   Newbie accounts are used for many things that are not good for the forums.  One of best features added to deal with PM's and newbies is the red warning when dealing with them, as so many where trying to pretend to be other users with a close username and scam.

If your dealing with a newbie and need more then 5 PM's per hour (that is very rare).  But if it is I suggest you use skype or some other means as communication.  As this is a good thing for almost all cases on posting limit.

Please do not change this, the scam spam would be unbearable.
