Newcomers often blindly choose the Bitcoin-Qt client that is listed at bitcoin.org and then regret it later when they discover how long it takes to synchronize with the network and how much hard drive space it uses. Gambling tends to be interesting to as it tends to host some of the most reliable businesses. I'll also throw this out there for if you already have some bitcoins BitBet (http://bitbet.us/?ref=1PVRTcq4k3z84RmHceAi62YHeMhbckT3mN) If you need coins though and are willing to spend some time earning a few instead of buying Rugatu (http://www.rugatu.com) is one of the better sites to get "free" coins.
