Title: [2016-04-12] Not Even Wikipedia is Safe from Bitcoin & Blockchain Censorship
Post by: jdebunt on April 12, 2016, 11:31:46 AM
Why would anyone try to remove information about Bitcoin and blockchain from wikipedia?

Most digital currency enthusiasts are aware of how the blockchain is permissionless, i.e. publicly accessible, at its core and used to power the Bitcoin network. It seems to make little to no sense to remove this type of information from the Wikipedia entry. However, various groups are looking to build their own version of blockchain technology, which could require permission to access, let alone have anything to do with Bitcoin.

That is one negative aspect about wikipedia - some of these proxy battles tend to be fought there.

This is not censorship, but a sneaky attempt from competitors to remove words that favors Bitcoin. If the general public cannot make a clear distinction between permissionless

and permissioned Blockchains they will be none the wiser when they have to chose between the two options. This was very quickly spotted and rectified, so now it reflects the

true definition and also distinction between these two types of technologies. Spreading misinformation is becoming the norm these days.  ::)
