That's a hard hit but let's see if we can stick in this diff range until the halving  8)

A hard hit but not a knock out.  I think once next gen chips are in production and hitting specs... we are in for double digits and I don't know how long.  And that scares me.

I think S7's they are making last bit of profits they can before having.  But once we see next gen.... I will admit I'm afraid of it for home/hobby miners.

As long as they sell gear to hobby miners there will be hobby miners.

Just less of us.

Now I'd say they could kill us off if they only build 10000 watt miners.

I can provide 30 amp 240 volt circuits. Two in my house and three in the solar array.

That can do 5 kwatts  24/7/365. Most home miners can't do that. So they will be dead soon.  Maybe with in a year.  As many miners can do an Avalon 6 in house or an office.

If you have free power and run an avalon6  you can do it for a long time.

If you have free power and the gear is 6 or 7 kwatt you are dead. That is when we die as home miners.

The hard part is electricity price as it is getting more and more important.  We know there are mega mines in China at cheap rates (people debate on price but it has to be cheap).  If they upgrade to next gen on a few cent electricity and BTC does not rise in price and difficulty continues to rise, I think that will be nail in coffin for a lot of home miners.

Hard to speculate what will happen.  But next gen will be interesting to watch with big mines.  We could have interesting times before having.

last batch of s7 is not so much of a home miner, some say s7 itself it'a not....

also summer it's comming and heat becomes a minus!

DAmn I was close.  So the new miners are already getting up and running ?  Or is this just bitmain s7's still selling strong ?  IMO 7% is A LOT of hashrate.  its crazy.

I thought the same at first but I have read quite a few stories of people going to 220/240 on a line.   I know I added it in my mining area specifically for S7's.   I have some 120 lines ran to as I was running some previous gen miner and A6's.    (I had a lot of the parts for 120 including is why it got ran first).   But after trying 240 with PDU I doubt I run anything besides it if I need more in future.

For what it's worth I think home mining continues to go smaller.  Hobby mining of a little bigger some went to like me.  But its really the mega farms that control the game now days.

no question the game is all about power cost.

Yeah I have 2 deals giving me very low cost power but I can not scale it past  10 kwatts. 2 or 3 cents average

then my power jumps.  I may be able to run something at 8 cents  3-5 more kwatts .

 then all other power is 12 to 15 cents  and that means only eth coin works

And it's almost sad explaining this happening to people.  I had a family member asking about bitcoin and in part mining.   In past I have been able to say very good things about mining (I don't see this member often).

But this time when explaining current state of mining it was sad.  He asks about investment and in past I would have had a way for him to possibly do it.  But my explanation now is all about electricity costs and it's moving to mega mines.  It almost hurt me as I was explaining it and realizing how much less positive it was compared to say year ago or before even.

yeah  a s-7 at 8 cents earns 84 a month

the ½ ing will come and shit is going to have to change.

same s-7 will be down to 60-70 a month right before the ½

and then at 0 to 4 dollars a month

and this is 8 cent power.

We are now well past 250 blocks past the difficulty change, and the projected increase hasn't budged vary much. That doesn't sound good if the current projection is based on the most recent 500 blocks. See:

Maybe I just don't get this and it really isn't going to be another 5-7% increase.

I could be wrong but I still think they are pumping out S7's with new design to get some last profits before having.  Also they can build and mine with them and sell later date still.... so it's win win for them.  And I could be wrong and it's next gen.

I just think once we see next gen it will be double digits on difficulty changes.  But I could be all wet on that guess.  Another 5+ would not surprise me at all.

Back from a very wet Vegas and this Morning we had snow.... First full Day of the new Period we had -2.08% with 141 Blocks and the period to date run rate is at +0.67% so everything fairly quiet at the moment.  :)

These numbers are really good so far.   180913459307/178678307672 -1 =   +0.030%

Look at price it is actually looking good currently at 430 per coin.   This is getting closer and closer to my short term goal of 450, I really want to see it just mentally but it's slow moving.

So Day 2 was -4.17% with 138 blocks however this Morning is off to a Brisk start with a lot of short Blocks which has pulled the Period to date Run Rate, 9 Hours in, up to +2.69%

To early to judge if this is increased hash or just variance? We will see....  :)

So not terrible so far.

So Yesterday was the biggest Day so far ending +9.72& and 158 Blocks. Period Run Rate during the Day tracked between between +2% & +4% and this Morning, 7 Hours in, we are at the bottom of that range with a Period Run rate of +2.18%.

So at the moment we seem to have stabilised in the +2% to +4% range, however anything can happen from here...

The charts are still looking a little peaky, but it's obvious that a lot of that hash that was coming on and off has stayed on now.  I think this is really interesting to watch as the halving gets closer.  I think it's going to be ~flat this time, but we'll see.

I'm hoping for less then 5 on change, but it's hard to say one big batch being plugged in could have a decent effect.  The bad thing I have noticed  is we seem unable to stay at 430.  I'm not sure if autosells are hittiing on 430 or what.  We have hit temporary even above but always are endinng back in 420's.  Hopefully that changes.

Well the Hash Rate seems to be quite relaxed at the moment. Yesterday we had -6.94% with 134 Blocks. Period to Date Run Rate tracked down to +1% at the close and that's about where it is, 7 Hours in, Today. Let's hope this continues?

Yesterday was +4.15% and 150 Blocks and Period to Date we continue to track in the +1% to +3% region with the Daily swings just being variance. Period Run rate, 7 Hours in Today, is at +1.73%. But so difficult initially to tell the difference between variance & real hash being added?

Price is closing in on $440, but I'm more concerned with where the prices stays, not where it peaks.  If we can hold ~$440 until next period then we're getting somewhere, although with a network diff that is almost assuredly going to cross 200G before the halving even strong price isn't much of a boon for the little guys.

Not only that we are holding up above it currently. We are around 443 which is VERY nice to see just mentally as miners, to see some growth via value.  I don't want to get to positive to fast but we might have beaten 440 sale walls and here to stay.

Hopefully next up is 450 that is a big number in my eyes short term.  And that means it's midday in China and we did not drop, so no morning mass sells at 440.  I think China is a huge part of market at this point.

Good to see the price holding... Yesterday was the biggest Day yet with +14.58% & 165 Blocks. Could still be variance but I think we took a step up in Hash Rate. We have moved out of the nice +1% to +3% range and the Period Run Rate , 6 Hours in Today, is at +3.62% and looking like it will go higher.

I'm hoping for something big at the halving, too, but I'm hoping for a big drop - probably the opposite of what most people want.  I want the price to tank down to the $100 range and I want difficulty to drop with it.  I would love it if the halving spelled the end to mega-mines by making them no longer cost efficient to run.

Even small percentage changes now have HUGE diff effects, like the 5% we're at right now sounds small but that would add almost 10G to the diff!

Fun week to watch price, it was going down a little bit.  But look now and we almost 448... it's possible we might even see 450 today (or if not hopefully China wakes up and bumps it over).

I feel since I sold 9 coins to help pay for my new kitchen  getting 445 to 450 each for them  coins will certainly move higher. ::) ;D ::)

I have said for a few difficulty periods I would be happy hitting 450... and we blew threw sell wall's.  I could not be happier right now seeing increase past what I thought.   I do admit after being in this game so long my speculation is not the most optomistic as I try to stay grounded... and weather good and bad.

But to almost be 460.. WOW.. we are going places.  Is this a sign before having we will see a nice increase? I sure hope so!   I don't think investors will wait till near having... so hopefully we see a nice build up well before. 

And all of this helps miners as we are competing with mega mines at this point.

Maybe the ½ ing price bounce is coming?   Would be nice to see a strong price lift here.

we were at 427 on the start of this jump

so 427 to 461 = 7.96%

and diff jump is under 2%

I always have problems selling, just so much memories/sweat and tears in it.  I do pay electric bill out of it as if I did not I would go pretty deep in investing quick.   I can't even think of my sell number.

I also don't think I could sell them all, it makes me feel like I have skin in the game that + miners.  Makes it more fun for me.   But I agree one day I would not mind fiat for some I have saved up.... just not quite to where i feel ready to sell them.

Wait and sell some at $2000 each, I have a few coins that I mined at that value. Not often you have a chance to make that kind of gain in your lifetime.

We are a LONG way's from 2,000 though.  Were celebrating a 60 dollar or so raise from the 400 day's.  But to get to 2,000 is not going to be a near term goal even with having.   

If we hit 1,000 anytime soon I would be very happy to see.  I do think 1,000 will be hard to hold with sale walls and some cashing out some if it happens.  And honestly we have been really just picking up last 2 weeks or so, we might stall anytime and not keep this gain going at least as quick as it is.

Too date, my experience has been with Coinbase. I haven't seen, but have longed for, a method to put in a "Sell at X price" or "Buy at X price" mechanism. Am I missing something at Coinbase, or are you using a different exchange? Any additional info on that would be appreciated.

You have to use the Coinbase exchange, not Coinbase itself. Basically you have to transfer BTC to your Coinbase exchange wallet, then set up your sell order. Conversely you can set up buy orders and withdraw as desired.

I've gone through this process and it was pretty straightforward. I had a sell order up for something like 10 days before it fired off (I set a pretty high price).

Although I did run into friction withdrawing the funds from the exchange. Part of the problem was that their web interface allows comma separators, but if you use them to specify the withdraw amount it fails with an unhelpful and misleading error. I had pasted the amount to withdraw and it included a comma. Removing the comma made it all work.

There are other exchanges of course. I thought about using Gemini for my sell order. But it was just too convenient to use Coinbase.

Some good news I got a new signature and it pays enough to cover the prize money for 3 jumps.  this brings us to  a july ending  at the worst.

 So if the signature campaign continues on I will keep this going until at least august.

The thing is, it can't be the same hardware since November, because we've had a lot of significant network growth since then.  Whoever is turning it on and off sure has the timing down pat, looks like we'll be almost dead level this adjustment.

I don't know, Rich, the swings are way too drastic and timed too well to be purely variance.  I think we are seeing orchestrated powering on and off of large amounts of miners, probably as Phil has mentioned these are big farms of old tech that gets turned on with cheap power and then turned off so as not to effect overall diff.

Variance for small swings for sure, but I don't think this is variance.

My logic.... is that we have an unusual period here in that it looks like being close to Zero. If the big rise we saw from around block 900 to 1000 was a big farm turning on then that should have resulted in an increase in Difficulty this period that was sustained whereas it has gradually gone away back to zero? Also although at the time it looked quite dramatic if you step back from the graph of the period as a whole then it looks less significant? As I say just a theory....  :)

  I am liking the -.10 drop a lot.

I had hoped for 500 to my goal was 450 near term, and 500 further term.  But i thought we were going to get both possibly in same difficulty period.  But it did go down again.

We are down to 442... so it's dropping even more.  Hopefully it can stop and that is just China reacting to downswing.  but hard to tell.

So Yesterday another slow day with -10.49% and 129 Blocks. This Morning we are at  Period Run rate of +0.04% and with just 12 Blocks to go we could land either side of Zero.  :)

My spreadsheet makes the final result -0.038% but is often a little wrong. However it will be very close to zero which is a great result.  :)

Well wow, you can't get any closer to 0 than that.  Whoever turned off that hash timed it perfectly, kudos to them!  A level adjustment is a win of sorts for all of us.
