Title: regulating the speed of Antminer fans
Post by: QuentinA on April 14, 2016, 02:01:59 PM
Hello,

Here it is, I’ve purchased a 4 gpu rig recently, the heat dissipation isn’t bad but could be better.

I have a few antminer fans I would like to put in a push/pull configuration, but when I plug them they go 100%, is there any clean way (IE not a resistor soldered on the wire) to regulate the speeds?

Cheers

PS : I'd rather not plug them on the MOBO as they suck up a lot more power then the usual PC ones :)

okay  you are correct do not use them on the mobo

give me a minute to get links for you

use this for 1 fan

http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Cooling-Speed-Controller-Control/dp/B01BAJ8OE8/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1460642830&sr=1-5&keywords=fan+speed+controller

use this to adapter to your fan

http://www.amazon.com/Male-Female-Extension-Power-Cable/dp/B007Q01I5I/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1460643085&sr=1-4&keywords=3+pin+fan+extension

this will do only 1 fan  cost = 10 bucks

it will handle the extra power  those fans do.

Damn, 4 minutes!!

thanks for the info, but on the extension cord you linked it's just an extension cord, didn't you mean to put a power plug from the psu on the other side? (something of that sort => http://www.conrad.fr/ce/fr/product/972202/Cble-Y-ventilateur-PC-Akasa-4x-ventilateur-PC-mle-3-ples-1x-alim-IDE-mle-4-ples-015-m/ )

If not, should I go mobo => extension => speed variator => fan ?

Thanks for your help anyways mate

I got a S4 fan plugged into one of my mobo's, just had to set the speed to like 10% in the bios .

Don't run these types of fans on 100% because they carry too much current and might melt the pins on the motherboard.

If the fans are identical then you can always easily wire them up in series, most fans should spin at 6V's.
