Title: [Tools] Bitcoin Price Alarm
Post by: Namworld on February 13, 2013, 09:26:41 AM
Hello,

I made myself a Bitcoin price alarm in javascript, using MtGox socket.io API. Can be customized and can watch multiple currencies.

No more will you be limited to watching the price less than 24/7. No more sleepless nights to watch the market price during a crucial moment.

Will work in latest Chrome and IE9. Not Firefox. Uses HTML5 audio tags. Will attempt to reconnect when disconnected but might not work 100% of the time. Seems stable however.

If you'd like more currencies to be added to the tracking, please request.

Regards.

Eheh, tried Bitcoinium first. But the alarm just ain't loud enough on a cellphone to wake you up. Good to keep track when on the move tho.

Nice, have been thinking about building something like this for a while myself.

Could you add a function that you get an email when it triggers?

Thanks. I kept tweaking at it a bit.

it is near perfect, but, if I may suggest, a option for different sounds depending if the price goes up or down would also be quite cool, just an idea ...

have a good day!

It hadn't been working for quite some time when I created mine. Flash tends to crash randomly on me which can be an issue. I've had this script running non-stop for up to 2 days without any issues.

@ OP: can you please enable Firefox?
Yes, I've added multiple audio formats. Firefox should now work.

nice!

small suggesion: the gray static background is annoying. makes it look like something from the nineties. can you change to a more gloossy look? or at least use a solid color.
I'm pretty sure in the 90s they went from text on white background to solid color, mostly. Noise textures are common nowadays, although usually not in gray with more details added to the page hiding most of the background. It's usually more elegant with a more complex design.

I've added a gradient to reduce the dullness of the noise texture a bit.

You don't need to debate the feedback, it's your website and you can do whatever you want with it. But you asked for critique so we are giving you critique.

You have a great tool, but it looks poor. It is even worse now with the blue gradient. This is what I think of when I see your webpage:

Eh, I disagree on that.

I didn't technically ask for critique, I was just sharing the tool. It was not made to look pretty, just functional with basic display.
