Title: Recovering coins from Hive on Android
Post by: LogicalUnit on April 16, 2016, 08:23:10 AM
Hi everyone,

I went to use my Hive wallet on Android today, and it would not open. According to https://hivewallet.com/ the project has been ended.

I only had 0.1 BTC in that wallet, but I would appreciate any help in recovering it. I still have my passphrase.

Thanks.

If you still have access to your private keys ,you can simply import them to any another online wallet ,blockchain.info for instance.Your coins are safe.If you are a bit technical ,try using electrum desktop wallet.

How do I get the private keys from my passphrase?

I'm not really sure where your keys would be stored but according to hive ,your keys are stored in your device.Try looking for wallet.dat file maybe. You can message the owner of Hive wallet and ask him directly ,he should help https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=4070

concerning your issue:

How can I export the private key(s) of my wallet?

Hive Web, Hive iOS and Hive Android do not provide a direct way of displaying or exporting the private key associated with one of your Bitcoin addresses. However, all your keys are derived from your BIP39 passphrase, which means you can use any wallet that supports this standard. We believe that the upcoming Multibit HD wallet will be able to read your passphrase and provide individual private key export.

Hive Android Legacy also does not support private key export. In theory you can try to extract keys from the backup file, which is an OpenSSL-encrypted protocol buffers file, but this is definitely advanced tinkering - see this README for hints.

Hive Mac supports private key export starting with version 1.4.1 by accessing Wallet > Export Private Key… from the top menu.

I've been trying to get my private keys from my hivewallet to... In the end, i was trying https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/
Eventough this one should do the trick, i didn't succeed in getting my PK's :(... For me this wasn't a real problem, i just a couple of satoshi's i got from trying out faucets when i was first trying out BTC, but in your case, 0.1BTC is well worth giving every option a shot.

Disclaimer: it might not be a good idear to use the web version of this tool (i used the web version because it was a very little ammount of coins), in your case, it might be a better idear to download the tool from github and run it locally?

BTW: if you get it to work, do you mind sharing how you did it?

you're indeed right . NEVER use these kind of tools online ! alway dowload them, and then run it offline.

I gave up on retrieving my coin from Hive a long time ago.  And, I believe they are officially offline as of April 2016.  I had several dash coin and several litecoin stuck on there for about a year now....When I contacted them, they said that I was the only who had access to my coin....but, withdrawals weren't working so I just considered them burnt coin!

Which ICO? AFAIK, hive is/was an online/desktop wallet, i don't remember them running any ICO's? Or am i missing something here?

Okay, I used my seed phrase with https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/ to generate a BIP32 root key, but when I put this key into electrum, it displayed a balance of 0 bitcoins.

I had the same results i'm afraid... Did you correct the path to m/0'/0?
I found it very strange that it didn't work, since it was updated only 2 months ago, and it has a clear indicator of the path you have to use for hive wallets.

I also tried my pincode as password, no luck either.

Like i said, if anybody ever gets it running, it would be great ;)

Did you correct the path to m/0'/0?

Can you explain what this means, please?

Don't worry, I figured out what you meant. Unfortunately, it didn't work :(

Use Mycelium - I think (as I remember) the option is "restore cold wallet" - then enter passphrase you used for hive wallet. It works.

Yay, it worked! I installed Mycelium on my Android device, created a new wallet, then used the Cold Storage option. I used my Hive passphrase and my bitcoins appeared in the wallet. :)

Many, many thanks :D

I have to try this first thing tomorrow morning... Thanks for the great tip.
If i'm not mistaking, mycelium also allows you to export your private key, so by using this wallet, you could, for example, export your hive wallet private keys and import them into core or electrum  :)

A small update: importing the seed directly into the latest version of multibit HD will also work  ;D
I had already tried a very old version, but since this didn't work, i gave up on multibit.

Now, it works like a charm, as does mycelium for android

Hi guys. I have a similar problem. I have Hive on my smartphone , which was broken six months ago; Today I repaired it and I read that HIVE is closed and it is no longer supported !!! I do not remember my passphrase , but I remember my PIN ... but when trying to enter... it remains stationary on "Verifying your PIN".

How can I fix it?! :(

thanks for support!

I don't think the PIN is enough to recover your coins with another wallet, like Mycelium. But the passphrase or private keys *might* be recoverable from your phone. I personally don't know how to do it. Perhaps someone else can help you.

You are correct, you really, really, really need the seed phrase. It might be possible to recover it from your phone, but i couldn't find any leads on how to do this. You'll probably have to read the full hive sourcecode and see if and how it's stored on your phone.
Once you have the seed it's pretty straightforeward tough: just install multibit HD and recover your wallet with the seed, it just works :)

Maybe this reply is a little bit late, but there´s an easy way to recover your bitcoins from HIVE-Wallet:

1. You need your 12-phrase-password!!! Very important!!!
2. Go to https://coin.space/
3. Insert your 12-phrase-password
4. Insert your four-digit Hive PIN

That´s all! Sometimes the site is loading a little bit longer, but you get access to your bitcoins from hive wallet an you are able to transfer them to another wallet!

(I found this tip on http://www.markandersononline.com/blog/how-recover-bitcoins-hive-bitcoin-wallet/)
