Title: Bovada Poker now accepting bitcoin!
Post by: cjmoles on April 22, 2016, 02:53:52 AM
Wow, just got an email from Bovada poker stating that is now accepting bitcoin.  I can't login to my account for some reason, so if there is anybody here who has an account , would you confirm that for me and post the details...maximum, minimums, times, terms....etc.  If it is true, then it's pretty big news; it's big news for Bovada and for bitcoin!

I read where deposits are pretty easy. Withdrawls take a min of 72 hours and require 3 forms of ID. And then they said they reserve to right to charge $20 for a BTC withdrawal.

No thanks, boturd.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is Bovada Poker and why we should be exited about them accepting bitcoin payments?
It is not like top they are in top 5 world poker sites or something, right?

They are really big!....Bodog/Bovada....I think as far as volume they are in the top 5....2 or 3 possibly...it depends on how you look at it.  They don't report as much of their figures as Stars, Tilt, or Party, but they are up there pretty high.

So, I just logged in to my Bovada account and looked at the bitcoin details.  They are not currently offering bitcoin withdrawals and the minimum bitcoin deposit is $25 USD and increases by $25 increments from there.  So, it's still not as refined as it should be....I will be watching closely.  Here is a link to the reddit discussion concerning the subject:

also last time I checked I saw that you can only deposit with btc but you can't witdraw , it looks like they are offering withdrawals now

You can try Bodog if Bovada doesn't allow your location.  I believe that Bodog services a wider number of countries....not sure though.  I was grandfathered into Bovada from Bodog when they left the US market so the software and branding is the same.

tried Bodog too , and the same message poped up that they don't accept residents in my area but there was a message under it saying that I can play in Bodog88 which looks like a chinese site
but couldn't find poker option in that site , also nothing about bitcoins at all there

IIRC, they are one of the only sites (if not the only one) that allowed US players to play with real money.
I remember them having a crazy initial deposit offer using a referral.

Their ecosystem is pretty big.

That's okay....Betcoin is better than Bovada in my opinion anyway!  You can't use your HUD on Bovada and all the players are anonymous there.  It does have a larger player pool and a broader selection of games but the Betcoin.ag pool of players is a lot softer field....so, you're already playing at a better place anyway.  I just mentioned Bovada because it's a big site and is really encouraging as far as the bitcoin adoption rate is concerned.

They do have a large player pool, but they are not the only site that allows US players as you can see here: http://www.pokerscout.com/

I've never been a fan of Bovada/Bodog poker. Their UI/table layout is ugly AF, players are anonymous, no rakeback/rewards program, and they only allow you to play four tables max, at least the last time I checked.

Bovada = USA (except new accounts from regulated States)
Bodog = Canada
Bodog88 = Asia

The player pool is soft because they do not allow Europe / Russia and so far I never read anywhere that they're thinking about changing that fact.

BTCs just give them a much cheaper / safer mean to deal with their USA customers that cost them a ton in processing fees.

This maybe great news to some, but whats the point in asking for 3 different ID verification when implementing Bitcoin. If they implement Bitcoin they should do anonymous withdrawals and deposits, as all the other sites. I don't see any advantage in this.

Not to revive a dead thread, but anyone been able to actually deposit Bitcoin? I just found out that Bovada started accepting BTC deposits/withdrawals today, so I just set up an account over there. Tried to deposit $25 in BTC, and got denied. Talked with customer service, turns out I need to upload a few forms of ID before I can deposit.

Bovada is NOT set up for BTC withdrawals, only deposits. And if you were to make a fiat withdrawal they would ask you for all that docs anyways. Just to be clear.

Sounds like a typical get the customer to the site and if they want to play bad enough will jump through the hoops. Find it interesting these sites have watched bitcoin but have little honest adoption of it. You do not take bitcoin and try to get customers jumping around like bitcoin didnt change anything.
What do you expect from a pot smuggler though.

Because Bovada accepts cash and is a much bigger (though not that big) poker site.

This means more dumb money, playing against Bitcoin people is tough - they tend to be more tech savvy and generally not as.. dumb?

Now the Bitcoin community has a chance to soak up USD from BTC (if you are good that is!).

It is like playing at a table of drunks vs sober techies.

Actually I found out about Bovada through a post on /r/Bitcoin. It looks like they set up Bitcoin withdrawals just earlier today.

Anyways, in response to others, I really don't mind the identification issues. It took all of 40 minutes for my account to be verified and deposit granted (instant Bitcoin deposits!) and the need for verification symbolizes a site that is legit and compliant, meaning no worries of funds or owners going dark. This is reassuring in a Bitcoin world where every other casino that pops up is a scam.

The playerbase is also huge, nothing in Bitcoin gambling compares.

As you can see now you see already also that Bitcoin is getting more popular and more acceptable and that is nice but it is hard to know what there will happen.
But gambling will be also more online and that is nice.

Seeing how Bitcoin gambling is blooming crazy fast I guess we now might see others top poker sites (Pokerstars, 888poker) accepting bitcoin really soon.
They don't want to miss an opportunity of all bitcoin gamblers out there. Good times ahead.

Bovada has been around for a very long time. It was Bodog for us USA players till Black Friday.
been playing there and using there sports book for real long time, and even without BTC there cashouts would be really quick by comparison as average wait to get check in hand is currently about 7 days, which is real good compare to other sites, but now with BTC there its a real game changer.
one of the most highly trusted poker sites and sportsbook and casino out there.
if u follow them on facebook they give away a lot of freebies.

Yes, they've always had some of the fastest withdrawals....And, while their KYC rules seem a little tentative, they don't take as long to process as others.  I know that the KYC rules are obsolete for purely bitcoin transactions, but the KYC rules are there because of the fiat accounts.  The document requirement is in place on many sites with the duel (fiat/crypto) accounting systems.  I hope it will change soon...but....I can think of many reasons why it wouldn't; for example, one could deposit with a credit card and withdraw in bitcoin....etc.
