Title: Bitcoin 0.8 Client Post by: move_zig on February 17, 2013, 11:09:31 PM Has anyone else been using the new test 0.8 client? I keep my wallet on an encrypted drive so the I/O speedup helped me out a lot. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=129861.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=129861.0)
I downloaded the linux version and ran the prebuilt binary and it converted my entire database to the new format in a couple hours and then synced the rest of my outstanding blocks in what I think was half the time the 0.7 client would have taken. As a benchmark for those who are interested, I installed 0.8.0 on a 5 year old 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB graphics processor running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. The total synchronization time starting on 2013-02-19 was 22 hours, and the total disk space used is 6.4 GB Disk usage: Code: $ pwd; du -h Title: Re: Bitcoin 0.8 Client Post by: InfSys on February 21, 2013, 12:32:39 PM I'm waiting a week or two before installing.
There seem to be many changes in this version. So it's possible there are problems yet undiscovered. (Well i'm a conservative guy. :) ) Title: Re: Bitcoin 0.8 Client Post by: playtin on February 21, 2013, 12:57:46 PM I'm waiting a week or two before installing. Since the bitcoin client handles real money I would call that reasonable, not conservative There seem to be many changes in this version. So it's possible there are problems yet undiscovered. Syncing was fast and my HD light is not on nearly as much any more. I'll probably transfer a few bitcoins over in a few days.
