Usually to move off-topic portions of the topic to the correct forum. I remember a lending topic that got derailed into a religious debate getting split, with a portion being moved to politics and society (I think). I imagine the one you posted was for a similar reason.

A topic split is when someone derails the topic. For example, let's say I made a bitcoin ATM machine, Inaba replied and then Micon dueled it out  ;D
