Their backlog is huge and their first crop of chips is microscopic by comparison. Regardless of what they say, if you were to place an order now you'd be lucky to receive it by this fall.

For the other, when difficulty reach over 500 million in a few months (which is fairly possible, there's a nice thread on that on BFL forum, supposing 70K ASIC @ 8GH/s), then it will be unprofitable.
