Certain native groups participate in a seal hunt, a yearly event to keep the population down so they don't destroy the cod population in the North Atlantic. For a few years they came under intense scrutiny from activists because Greenpeace had some footage of seal pups being dragged away from nursing mothers (a big no no, you don't kill nursing mothers or pups) and clubbed to death with a stick. Clubbing is the preferred method, as it preserves the pelt for skinning/tanning, unlike shooting which can damage the pelt. SealsWithClubs.org is a clever pun, turning the clubs around and giving them to the seals, while at the same time clubs are a cards/poker term. And there you have it. I myself, while having participated in the hunt (being part Mi'q-Ma'q native from Newfoundland), have clubbed a few seals in my time, but only the mature males allowed by law. I love me some seal meat in gravy over potatos. It is the yummy. Plus, my grandmother would make us the most toasty warm seal-fur linings for boots, as well as mittens and coat hood-liners.
