Title: I bought games from steam thread
Post by: Lethn on April 30, 2016, 12:10:33 PM
So I agree there has been an awful lot of spam regarding Valve's recent Bitcoin implementation on Steam, so how about we keep all news items and posts about it located in one thread?

Just this week by the way, I successfully bought The Culling from Steam with no problems, the only thing I've found is that the bitpay links don't work because of the platform's browser.

so how about we keep all news items and posts about it located in one thread?

Then why did you feel the need to create another thread for it instead of posting to one of the existing threads?

Seems like you just made your problem/issue worse by making more threads about Steam accepting Bitcoin.

Then I highly advise you to start a self-moderated thread or else you will experience a lot of spam in your thread as well.

I haven't had time nor reason (no specific games that I want) to try it out yet. The last time that I did buy some games with Bitcoin was via some website that sold Steam games. I assume that these websites will run out of business now as there is no need to indirectly buy these games. Do you have any recommendations?

to be honest i still prefer g2a or akin, because i can found games at much cheaper price, i would use steam only for very good offer on some tittles, or for some indie games that you can not find on those other services, which is a rare thing anyway

I am not so sure about that - G2A - a major Steam, Orgin and Uplay keys reseller was accepting Bitcoin long before Steam started to do this.
And they are offing lower prices than Steam usually. But I think that smaller independent services like https://steambitshop.com/ (https://steambitshop.com/) will have hard time surviving.
I just can't wait for next big Steam sale now.

Well, they are a 'huge' re-seller, and I was not talking about them (in addition to having Origin and Uplay games; both don't support Bitcoin).

But I think that smaller independent services like https://steambitshop.com/ (https://steambitshop.com/) will have hard time surviving.
This is what I was talking about. The niche market for these services is gone.

In case that someone missed my question:
Do you have any (game) recommendations?

it depends on your taste, the most popular game that everybody loves is CS:GO you might even have it,

my expenses on steam is only buying Dota2 items these days (dota2 is free). you can also buy CS:GO items.

another game that i loved playing is dark souls 1 and 2 and haven't bough 3 yet (it is expensive :D) if you like to die buy DS

oh, almost forgot to say this, go on steam and do some search in their market they suggest games in their list that are similar and you can read the feedack and decide that way also.

Without some more info there is really hard to suggest a game for you. You have to specify what genres you are preferring.
I don't want to recommend a RPG game to an avid driving games fan and vice versa.

DS is pretty expensive on Steam ATM but you can grab it from G2A for $48 https://www.g2a.com/dark-souls-iii-steam-cd-key-global.html (https://www.g2a.com/dark-souls-iii-steam-cd-key-global.html)

thanks for the link but it is still pretty expensive for my taste :D

i might end up pirating it in the end ;) since i am not such a fan of the multiplayer part of it, getting a little off topichere but i love the story especially the love triangle in the previous version

Call me paranoid but I don't fully trust sites like g2a or instant gaming. There's probably low risk to get scammed, but I think it's better to buy it from the real deal (the steam platform) and have a peace of mind that the key delivered is yours and only yours and has never been owned by anyone else.
I will probably buy some games soon once the summer discount begins.

No. That is mainstream 'trash' that is very easy (i.e. 'newbie' friendly).

Now these are good recommendations. DS 3 is already on Steam? I haven't logged in for a while. It might be worth buying DS1 and DS2 with Bitcoins on the next sale.

Major titles (I have limited time), preferably challenging. The genre isn't that much important (albeit there are favorites, e.g. ES series).

I'm not a gamer (is that unusual around here?) and so I won't be buying any games from them, but it's nice to see that steam is accepting bitcoin and that you had a relatively problem-free experience.

If you are a fan of Elder Scrolla Universe. So you might be interested in Piranha Bytes games, they created series like Gothic and Risen.
Also - Witcher Trilogy is awesome piece of a game, one of the best RPG series out there out there, you have to play it (if you haven't already).
In addition you can check Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - great action combat RPG with massive world.
My last but not least - personal favorite and hidden gem: Kingdoms of Amalur - Reckoning - game with monsters designed by Todd McFarlane (the creator of Spawn)

Not necessarily. Just because some people tend to sometimes play games, I would not call them gamers. Everyone gets their fair share of entertainment in one way or another. Some just like spending time in-game via Steam.

but it's nice to see that steam is accepting bitcoin and that you had a relatively problem-free experience.
I don't think that some realize just how huge Steam is.

So you might be interested in Piranha Bytes games, they created series like Gothic and Risen.
I'll look into it. The others have been beaten long ago. Are these games listed on Steam?

That does seem a bit paranoid. If the key is used by you, it usually can't be used by anyone else.

For alot of times, yes G2A is much cheaper than steam. But when Summer sale or Winter Sale or other sale, the price of games in steam is cheaper.

G2A is great to buy new released games for cheaper price, while buying directly on steam is great for buying games in sales.

I'm just going to comment on your last point, the issue I've always had with G2A is not that the key is being used by someone else, but rather that the key has already been used. If I remember correctly, G2A is like a sort of Amazon for games, and thus people sell their own goods and it is just insured that you'll get your product by the site. There have been some issues with used keys being sold to people (who can't tell if it has been or hasn't been used) and then they get scammed out of their money, unless they bought G2A shield.

Once you do redeem the key, though, it is yours and no-one else can take it in any way, unless they take your whole account.

G2A is kinda unsafe if you dont use their shield thingy. You could get an used key or even fake key. But if you buy the shield, G2A tends to be cheaper.

Well not necessarily ... If these services can find a way to offer these games or additional services to the members at a discount they would survive without problems. You either adopt or die... You can always

sell additional material related to gaming and enable ways for players to interact with each other on your site. Steam offers no direct member to member trade and you have to work through BitPay with added

fees to buy on Steam... this gives these site options to survive.  ;)

I prefer buying games on Steam during their holiday sales when there are heavy discounts on all games. I usually end up getting a lot of titles I don't have the time to play haha. I think I have transitioned from a PC gamer to a PC games collector. Thank you Gabe Newell but my wallet hates you  ;D

Anyways I bought Doom with Bitcoin on Steam because I am a big fan of the series. Looking forward to playing this game so much.
