you need to buy a rig first, try with only one gpu, maybe the one that you use for gaming now? if that go well for you, you cna add more

I am already out of mining because of our bad and hot weather but I highly recommend you start with minergate it's simple and easy but I highly recommend you look into proof of stakes too it's much more energy efficient and you can stakes up to 5 wallet at the same time you can do that on mining..

I can give u an example of two of my alt-coin rigs.
I usually let all rigs just mine ETH.. because it pays the most and is steady.

But i often use 2 rigs for different altcoins.
I like to "snipe" coins when difficulty is low.
Swoop in, mine some, and stop before diff is too high.

Heres an example of yesterdays calcs of my 2 alt rigs:
They consist of a mix of R9 380ITX and R9 390s
They put out about 300Mh/s ethash.

Heres from yesterday.

Coin         Diff   Speed  Pay    Price      Btc value

Dagger Hashimoto:
ETH       34K    300   3,4     0.02169417   0.07424489
SHiFt      5,44    300   2685   0.00002436   0.06524308
KRypton   1,7    300    855     0.00006958   0.05937191
SOIL      2,75     300   2200     0.00002300   0.05047350
EXPanse   841    300     55     0.00077227   0.04236866

SKEIN:
MYRiad   192   3,1   120k     0.00000026   0.03112200

Qubit:
TCR       1,59    71   148K     0.00000020   0.02965920

X14:
BERNcash   10   28     14080   0.00000149   0.02102115

edit:
(example of difficuly:
In the start of BERNcash when diff was 0,7.  Those same two rigs got about 120 000 BERNs pr day. Now they'd get 14k)

edit2:
I should also note that this is pure SOLO mining. No form of dualmining.
You CAN dualmine with modern AMD cards.

Those same two rigs running f.ex Claymores ETH-DCR dualminer gives them the same 300Mh/s Ethash ..and a BONUS of 6500 Mh/s DeCRed speed. Profit up 20%
You can also do light algos like BLAKE with ETH.

Edit 3   LOL

Im currenty looking into the combination of trippel-mining +mergemining with 1 GPU.
It does seem possible for me to mine the following coins on the same GPU at the same time.

ETH
DCR
BLC-Merged
PHO-Merged
BBTC-Merged
ELT-Merged
LIT-Merged
UMO-Merged

Yep, that is 8 coins at the same time with 1 gpu.  All the merged ones goes with the light BLAKE algo.

I can give u an example of two of my alt-coin rigs.[ SNIP]algo.

That is exactly what I was looking for. You are doing exactly what I want to do. I was doing it with renting on Nicehash and mining rigs rentals and on 2 970's with solo mining like with Krypton.
So if Eth dies tommorrow and you get a check for 2000 euro in the mail, what rig would you build for only mining alts but NOT eth ?

That was also one of my considerations before chosing to get rigs and amd cards.... "What if ETH dies tomorrow"
Are there backup solutions still profitable?

If it happend this morning.. what would i be doing right now?

Id have to switch all my main rigs over to different coins. By the looks of it, there are still 4 other ethashes still paying pretty decently. But i would go down 20-40% i guess.
I think i would spread it like this:

Main bulk: EXP   .. because it already has like 8 GH/s ..so i wont affect the difficulty much.
Then id spread some over SHF, KR, and SOIL.

The rest i would use to snipe low diff coins like MYR, TCR, TRAP...

Until i figured out what the hell to do ... need something stable for the mains.

I like Nvidia cards best .. really. I use them for everything normally. Apps.. games..
But they seem too pricey compared to performance on the good paying algos in the mining world.

Edit:
So answer..
Considering i have the setups and knowhows of the amd coins/algoes.. i'd probably just continue with the same rigs i have now.

Maybe a qubit-nvidia rig. It seems to do qubit very well.

well better to start with someone you know and trust to give you info .... if not don't go in big ...

right now the i would recommend getting in alot of 280x for cheap price with good state as they are doing in altcoins and they are cheap down to 120$ a piece

for gpu you just need to build your rig and after that it's like a plug and play, only a double click on ccminer or sgminer and you are ready to mine, if that what you mean
