Title: Lost Password Help
Post by: noobhelp1 on May 05, 2016, 03:49:34 AM
So I'm new to this and an idiot.
I have electrum running on my pc with the default wallet showing up and I have forgotten my password.
I didn't write down the seed correctly somehow.

Is there a way to recover the password from local files?
I generated it last night.

Take a look at this question similar to yours which was asked recently: Lost Electrum Wallet Password and Recovery Seed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1458716.0), you basically can't restore a wallet without a seed and can't access an encrypted one without the password. You can try one of the wallet recovery services as mentioned in the link but you will have to trust the service to not steal your funds.

Even if he trusts one of the services if he does not know the seed not a chance of recovering it via that, he would need an idea of it or it becomes impossible.  If he trust's them it might be possible with copy of wallet file, and you would need an idea of password.

If you used something random, or have no idea what it is chances are pretty slim of recovery.  But if you know part of password, or parts they can make custom wordists and you stand a much better chance.

If you used the random seed given by electrum and you have written it down incorrectly, you can try to write a script that tries combinations or slight adjustments of the words that you used.

Since you basically know most of the words it should be quite easy to crack the seed and thereby circumvent the password for the wallet.

Maybe carefully look over the words to see if some are written wrongly. It might be that you added an e instead of an a somewhere for example.
