Title: Do you have 100+ BTC ? - How do you plan to cashout ?
Post by: mki8 on May 09, 2016, 03:33:14 AM
This question is only for those with a considerable amount of BTC !!!!!
(Please, no satflaps)

If you are holding 100+ BTC
how do you plan to cash them out or say at least half of them, if BTC prices rises, but before bubble bursts
so how would you cash out 50 BTC quickly ?

i am mostly looking for answer that requires least amount of fees and effort,
exchanges like coinbase, you run the risk of them holding your BTC and questioning the source of your BTC etc.
i assume if price of BTC was say $2000 and you try withdrawing exchanging 50 btc for fiat,
it may raise a flag on their system

Localbitcoins, would be time consuming and hassle for such amounts
ATM you are paying 7%, not so bad if price has risen a shtload, but still be time consuming emptying the ATM everyday
and you may need to pay for a hotel to be near the ATM

Cash out? There is no need for a fiat conversion at this point.

Why you wanna cash out?So desperate of need to have some fiat in your hands or what is it?
If you can't find people who wanna buy BTC or the fees are too high for you, why not buy some goods with it which you can sell after it on online markets for cash?!

Agree. Thou I never thought I'd get to 100 BTC in any way, shape or manner by Mining. (Still doing great with knc Titan Miners..ie ROI'd etc)

Looking at 100 BTC as my now 'untouchable hoard' :)

So I MAY STAY AT 100 BTC .but thru mining will .be cashing out BTC now (and having equip pay electric) to knock the total amount of $$$ I have in equip and elec in BTC down

since 2013.

Seems prudent. Even if BTC pumps...I likely will only get another 10 BTC out. Thus 100 btc or 110 btc if it goes to the 'moon' I'm set. If not and goes

tulips...well ..I'll have the nice USB at the old folks home to hoard my 100 btc on as a novelty :)

anyway ...they can 'fend' for themselves now in the wild ....pay their own electric and such.....bring some $$$ back to Papa :)

If i had that amount of Bitcoin, I wouldn't cash out now, Bitcoin is doing so well and you would just be plain stupid if you cashed out now.

If I ever did cash out that amount, I would use a exchange I could trust very well.

Just prepare an account on exchange that you can trust
Many people trusted Mtgox and look what happened there.

I get the impression that the OP wants to cash out and stay anonymous,  under the radar.
The best way to do that would be to spread the risk and leave no trail. That means cash out to your bank is not an option.

You can forget 2-way bitcoin ATM's as they will require all sorts of ID and probably palm print to.
Localbitcoins may take some time but you can remain anonymous and trade for cash.
Visit a bitcoin meetup group and sell at a discount for cash would probably be your best option, it worked for DPR.

You could also look to trade here with someone local and agree to meet them.

There is other ways but I cant think of them now.

For me i cash out the 50 bitcoin so that if the bitcoin will down in coming bitcoin halving i have my money in my hand. But if you want to earn more try to risk it because no one knows what happen in bitcoin halving if the price will down or not. Theres a chance that the price will rise double but you need to be fast if the price will rise fast theres a chance that the price will down.

if i have 100btc? Well thats a big money and surely i will cash it out as soon as possible because i want to feel the money in my bare hands and i will put it to bank so my money will be safer and start again new for bitcoin,  and surely i will enjoy my  money cent by cents because i dont really trust the system of bitcoin if i have big amount of btc in my wallet because it can be hackable.

1. Exchange  :) ? it "may" raise a flag on their system but if you can prove when and where you bought the coins there is no problem. cashing out wont be a big problem - you should put more effort in storing them properly  :)

Some satflaps could even answer this question. You just bunked coinbase and localbitcoins, which are probably the best places to sell your coins. And of course it would trigger a flag if you hastily cash out 50 BTC. I mean, why would you do that? Banks have their daily limits. I guess it applies for bitcoin wallets too, since it's money we're talking about.

If you have 100+ coins i wont sell them yet just wait for a price rising. You will get much more coins
if you just hold them for a period and check everyday the value of the coin.

Contact somewhere like Grayscale and see if they can find a buyer for you. I dunno if they still broker sales but they advertised it for amounts of 25 coins and above when they were secondmarket. OTC sales are always gonna way more painless if they're done through the right people.

I don't have that much BTC. However how to cash out is the wrong question.

Why would you want to cash out in the first place? To buy fiat money that is subject to inflation? Why would anyone who owns a superior currency like Bitcoin want to do that?

One might also ask on a more fundamental level if "cashing out" is the right terminology when it comes to Bitcoin. Because, if Bitcoin succeeds as a currency, it will work just like cash. You will be able to buy all your necessities with Bitcoin. No more need for dishonest fiat paper from a central bank.

you dont need Grayscale or any other OTC market for several hundred coins. that is not a big amount for an exchange.

I have far less than 100 BTC but my sense is that with the proliferation of large exchanges such as Coinbase/Gemini in the US and Bitstamp in Europe, that there should not be an issue with getting liquidity.

100 BTC is not a huge holding in the grand scheme of thinhgs

i'm not planning to cash out ever, i can use them to buy stuff  via purse.io, to buy games via steam and plenty of other thing, why i should ever think to use trash traceable fiat again?

besides this you can save plenty of money by using bitcoin as a currency instead of dumping for fiat

correct. the question is, if 100 BTC is alot for an exchange and not if it is alot money for one person. Kraken is trading 10.000 BTC per day! and that is not the biggest exchange.

If you haven't already been able to tell from my post history, I have far, far less than 100 BTC, and I'll be surprised if I ever hold that amount in my lifetime.

if I did have 100BTC, though, I would definitely not look at cashing out in the near future, as I would assume having that much money put in Bitcoin (or having held all of it for that long) means that I'm holding for value increases in the future. If I had any intent on cashing out chances are it would have been something far lower, like 1BTC and not a number as high as 100. Holding 100 BTC would also likely mean I am holding it as a store of value if not for investment appreciation, and I wouldn't be cashing out anytime soon.

Bulk cash out is possible with few trading sites, in that too various limitations were there in transferring amount to the bank account. So its better to meet in personal and make the transaction.

I wouldn't be too happy about putting that much money through those places. They all seem more concerned about kissing regulator ass by questioning your every move than making sure you get a smooth experience.

I don't have 100 bitcoin's but I read an article a while ago about OTC trades (over the counter). You could contact a bitcoin business/exchange etc & sell to them in one lump with cash at a slightly discounted price.

If you're looking to get rid of them all in one go, quickly then this is your best bet I imagine.

No, I don't have them. If I would have them, this means that I would be either someone rich, and that case I would like to hide my money, or an early-adopter, so this mean that I believed in the project, so why would I want to quit this sytem that I saw growing ? In both case, I'd stay in Bitcoin and would not cash out.

As of now never reach this huge amount of bitcoin but if i am lucky to have it.. i just want to hold it and wait for block halving this is not the time to sell it and to cash out it into fiat.. because its more valuable if you wait for halving to be done..

Like last halvening, Don't expect much of a pump due to the market pricing things in beforehand. A larger bubble won't likely happen till the end of this year, and before you start spending that bitcoin you may want to consider waiting for the bubble after the next bubble, 2017??? , because that could be the really big one due to initial uncertainty that a new ATH will sustain, it won't , there will be another large correction, but if the correction has a support that sits above 1,200 USD than that would be an extremely bullish level of confidence to every investor and the world at large that a disinflationary currency is a good store of value and will likely continue to appreciate in value.

Thus I plan on HodLing till at least 2017 than spending some (max half) slowly thereafter directly ... but never cashing out to fiat.

There are so many exchangers available in the market. A little google search will give you a list who can exchange between bitcoin and paypal.

Use more than 5 exchangers and use 10 BTC with each of them to your paypal account. Once you receive the funds in your paypal account, you can easily withdraw it to your bank accounts.

But yes, you have to disclose that earning to your tax file.

If you need to cash out... well, then you should use coinbase like you said. less taxes and effort means less confiability in the service so i wouldnt do it.
just dont try to do it all at one time.

I wouldnt cash out all my bitcoins... right now theres no need for that. You can pay bills online, you can use a bitcoin debit card, and cash out a little amount to other things.

Cash out? for what, shitty fiat cash?
I have never sold a bitcoin and plan on spending mine throughout the rest of my life. I may leave some in my will, but cashing out is a dumb financial decision IMO. I paid fees in fiat to get my btc and it makes little sense to pay again for the same money I wanted to get rid of.

Well, at some point you might feel like you want to cash out some of it. I don't know how many you are, but it's possible that in 10 years you may be a millionaire, and you may feel like buying some real state to diversify, maybe a nicer house and whatnot. So tell me, how are you going to buy real state with Bitcoin? you will end up being forced to get that money taxed anyway, so in this scenario there is no way to get around commissions and taxes.

It is hard to buy something like real estate with bitcoin easily. I am currently looking for 40 acre or larger plots in Wisconsin and have found none for sale in BTC. Of course I could use a service that allows BTC to be spent as fiat. There are some credit cards, etc. that have this function. However I am holding out for a bitcoin sale. The problem is finding the right place AND the right currency.

Why would you need to cash out, if almost everything can be bought in some way or the other with Bitcoin. You just spread your hoard into different services and pay for the stuff you use on a daily

basis. You save your fiat income and just use enough, not to raise the red flags... Most of the payment processors and exchanges are a necessary evil and the only way out for people, to get back to

fiat. The only option is to avoid fiat conversion at all cost... pay what you need to pay in taxes and use the remaining bitcoins for the daily stuff.  ;)

Do not Cash out 100 BTC now. Save them till halving. When you cash out on halving, you can enjoy greater profits from it. So be patient and wait for just less than ninety days.

You do cash out for what? Crappy fiat money? If I had that kind of money I'd saving them at least until the halving planned in july.

If you have the patient to wait less than sixty days, you can ear up the 30-40% in my opinion..

By the way if I were forced to cash out my BTC, maybe I would buy some prepaid credit cards rechargeable through bitcoin and I'll use these for every day buying

If you have that much bitcoins there's no need to cash out just sit back and realx and watch as the Stacy increases in value. I don't have that much bitcoins and probably not for awhile but I still know that it will definitely raise a flag if you try to quickly cash out.

It wasn't question do you have it, it was about how would you cash it in fastest possible way. I agree with most people about there is no need for cashing out such big amount. But if I need to do something like that, probably I would do it on several different exchanges.
Never put all eggs in one place, so split amount and on trusted places put more, on others less and that's it.

What I'd do if I were in your shoes is I'd create several wallets to put about 20 BTC in each account. Then, I'd create an account in a local exchange site with the least minimal fee and convert about 10 BTC to fiat, at a time. It's not the fastest way I could think but security of transfer and conversion is my priority here.

If you have more than 100 BTC there is a chance that you also have some other assets gathered, after all you don't need do cash out all of it at once.
The best and safest option will be splitting your money and sell it little by little. Or spend directly.

At what dollar value, does the banks flag fiat transactions like this for AML requirements? $10 000 or less? Not that I am saying that I would want to avoid auditing, but I do not want to go through all of that, every time I get a deposit from a bank from an exchange.

I would rather buy property, when the price is high and then keep that as an investment. ^smile^

I wish I had so much Bitcoin and that is nice of course nice if you have that much but it wont be smart to cashout now because the value is not high enough to get that much profit.
So it would be better if you are waiting a longer time if the price is higher and that would be nice.

Honestly i never have that amount of bitcoin, and yes maybe i will have problem to cash out all of that bitcoin,if i should cash out all that amount,i will use escrow and sell it to people 10BTC,and sell it to exchange about 50BTC,but i will not do it in one time, its too risky.

Yes you're right. The adoption and therefore acceptance of Bitcoin will spread more and more with the years coming.
And why shall I dump Bitcoin, which probably will rise in price, for something that is losing purchasing power since it exists.
That makes no sense!

I think there are many reasons why someone does not do cashout and replace today to fiat. maybe they are waiting for higher prices again due to profit. or perhaps the purchase price was still higher than the current price. because the price down a little if you have 100 BTC then you will lose a very large

If you have 100+ coins i wont sell them yet just wait for a price rising. You will get much more coins
if you just hold them for a period and check everyday the value of the coin.

I think 100+ bitcoin is very much for me to have it. But when you starting to wait the price of bitcoin increase, and the result after few months the price of bitcoin not increase, it will be your problem dude.

For me i cash out the 50 bitcoin so that if the bitcoin will down in coming bitcoin halving i have my money in my hand. But if you want to earn more try to risk it because no one knows what happen in bitcoin halving if the price will down or not. There is a chance that the price will rise double but you need to be fast if the price will rise fast there is a chance that the price will down.

I think the first question is not serious, even in the "anonymity" of this forum no one would be so dumb to say "hey, I own 100+ BTC, kidnapp/harass/etc. me". About the actual question, you do not really need to "cash out", you can buy a few goods at different stores that accept Bitcoin and then sell them. With that much, and if every BTC was worth 2000 as you hypothesize, you can even start your own store. It can still rise flags, but not as much as selling BTC directly.

If you have the time to spend it in smaller bulks, you are safer.

Amen. This is why I seriously question those that would come forward as Satoshi. But he has a point, if bitcoin goes high enough for one to want to "cash out", the technology will be broad enough so you won't have to. It's money; a better price would hopefully mean widespread adoption and more places to spend said money. Live on it ;)

The question is not "should" you cash out, it's "how" do you cash out with minimal risk and expense?

First, consider where the coin came from in the first place. Did you buy it? Mine it? Do you have any records of where you bought it and how much you paid?

Assuming you are in the USA, you will owe taxes on whatever profit you made by selling the bitcoin. If you can't show how much you paid for it originally, the IRS will assume you got it for free and tax you on the whole amount.

Now, let's say you send 100 btc to Coinbase to sell and cash out. First, you can only withdraw up to your daily limit each day, and the limit starts at $3k. You can increase your limit by providing additional proof of your identity.

Now, let's assume you've been withdrawing $3000 per day into your bank account for the last couple weeks. Your bank is going to notice that you've suddenly got a bunch of money moving through your account. At some point they're going to freeze your account and notify the IRS that something suspicious is going on. Then your bank will contact you and ask for some explanation of where all that money is coming from. And they're going to want to see some proof. You need to be ready to answer those questions before you start cashing out. You might also want to tell your bank in advance about your plans.

Now, if we're talking about cashing out 1000+ bitcoins, talk to a lawyer.

True, everyone also has different ideas, it could just be doing their Fiat, because they thought that there was still the possibility of higher prices again. For if do Cashout for a sizable amount of it has a large risk, I.e. in the event of a price increase could be higher than Cashout does and it's very unfortunate when it happens.

I would say the safest and easiest way to cash out that much would probably be through Bitstamp. It won't be immediate though, it'll take between 2-5 business days to reach your bank depending on where you're located. Account verification is easy (got mine within a week). They're not as fussy as Coinbase plus they're fully licensed now which is always a good thing.

Cashout....

Likely like all others on here ..when Satoshi flushes his public wallets and dumps ..and the price goes sub 10 bucks due to panic...I'd be one of the lemmings.....

would be a good joke on his part however...cash out coins from other wallets he likely has from back in the day......flush the big public ones to cash

he likely would have more money then he could ever spend form $$$ out from before the crash ...no more BTC $$$ in value to revive it

he is secure in $$$ and in keeping his identity secret......moot point if BTC was at that point to go the way of paycoin.....

..and would sit in his 'secret lair' and laugh like this

http://cdn.collider.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/austin-powers-dr-evil.jpg

Ah.Doctor Evil ...you 'fiend' you......I knew you were to 'Evil' to be 'just' a movie villain!

(hopefully the above is a 'joke' but that would be one very messy way to 'cash out' as a Satoshi 'see ya later suckers' version imho ) :)

yes but even 45k out of the market cap is only 0.000006% . Many people in the world earn 100x that a year. Its all relative.

This is assuming people here WANT to cash out, which is a big assumption my friend :) Unless this was an intentionally inflammatory topic? Anyway, there are a number of ways to do it: max out your exchange withdrawal, buy altcoins, send to other exchanges, etc. Maybe take it to forex and cash out in several fiats?

There are many sites such as Circle which enables people to have the chance to cashout without being scared of being scared. I have personally cashed out a few thousand using the site.

Absolutely dude, we must get the safety when we want to change bitcoin into real currency. That site will help more for us. But i wondering that someone have 100 more btc. That one is very rich, that one use 400.000 dollars to buy bitcoin.

I wish i had 100+ BTC.Unfortunately i don`t have that much  :-\

I don`t know how to make that amount in a legit/white hat way.

If  i had 100+ btc,i would keep them.No need of cashout.

I personally don't own 100 btc, but I do know a couple of people who do own 100 btc IRL. I asked them this when I first found out, and they told me they were going to hold until this halving :-/

If you have more than 100 BTC there is a chance that you also have some other assets gathered, after all you don't need do cash out all of it at once.
The best and safest option will be splitting your money and sell it little by little. Or spend directly.
i think its some thing personal to answer. if a person have 100 bitcoin its mean that he is expert in bitcoin dealing, he also know the good and bad aspect of bitcoin collection, so i think he need no suggestion from any one
I think it would be better to conduct periodic sales indirectly. because we do not know what will happen to it after the bitcoin prices. maybe the price will go up? but if you think the price is in accordance with your expectations maybe you could sell everything directly

I definitely do not have 100 or more Bitcoin. Why would you want to cash out now? The price is going up so much and you will make a lot of profit if you just hold.

I agree; there’s is so much expectation that the value of Bitcoin will gradually increase. Soon we probably would have Bitcoin being a global currency accept globally; when that happens it won’t be necessary to cashout or convert it into another currency. Keep investing in Bitcoin and be patient as the Bitcoin currency becomes realised worldwide.

Does anyone know my option?  i dont have a bank account and dont want one. I would like to be able to spend some cash. I am saving up for land and i dont think i can buy land with BTC  or a house for that matter. so we still need cash in our system. also things like Gas for the car..

well i dont have that much bitcoins too, and i think it is really good that they are holding at the moment because the price is surely going to increase a lot in the near future in my opinion

i dont have that much bitcoins though if i had that much i would most probably wait until bitcoins became a national currency and then spend it as ordinary money without cashing out

Can't even imagine how much money they will get after halving. A lot of money, they can even stop working i think, but they also can multiply their goods.

i dont have that amount, but i think you should try to sell that bitcoin in localbitcoins.com and find trusted and experience buyer there,i think 100BTC not small amount, its why you should sell it on several periode, too risky if you sell it in one time deal.

Stop working because they have 100BTC? Not sure where you are coming from, but here in Europe 100BTC = €40,000 which will last you just over a year if you reserve €3000 each month. Beside that, I can't see the halving add much more value than around €50 per coin on top of that.

It wont be smart that you are going to sell it now first you have to make an investment in Bitcoin and if you have that much money you have to know that it will takes a long time.
So cashout will be not that fast and you can see that it has to first rise and than you can see later what you can do.

now I have not had that much bitcoin in my wallet, but I hope someday I have it. I guess the best way to cashout is to divide it, in order to avoid significant price decline. probably every day you sell 2- 5 BTC that bitcoin prices do not fall. because in my opinion, if you sell it at the same time, it will make the price of bitcoin be dropped

I think every forum member should have at least one bitcoin in their wallet. That will help the adoption.
