Title: About Electrum and transactions history
Post by: francoisj on February 26, 2013, 06:37:23 PM
Hi,

I discovered Bitcoin yesterday and chosed Electrum as my client, as it seemed to me much easier to understand for a beginner.
What will I lose, in term of functionality compared to other clients like Bitcoin-Qt?

Furthermore, I tried to get some Bitcoin cents via the free Bitcoin sites yesterday and after hitting like 8 websites of those (see https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade)), now I can only see two transactions in my history...
Is it normal, is there a lag, or are the majority of those websites fake?

Finally, I find it a bit confusing as I cannot relate a Bitcoin address with a name, unless I added a contact first...

I don't think you will miss anything when using Electrum, especially if you just starting out. Just make sure you encrypt your wallet and remember and protect your seed.

There is no lag for Electrum itself, the sites you asked for Bitcoin though might never pay or have scheduled payouts.

Alright then, thanks Tachikoma for your answer, so I think I am ready to be part of the Bitcoin community.

Now my question though is: as I never ran into a website that uses Bitcoin...
How do you folks use it actually?

I think that's a matter for a different topic ;)

What people say they use Bitcoin for: valid, everyday purposes.
What some people use Bitcoin for: valid, everyday purposes.
What most people use Bitcoin for: drugs.

Some of those websites are fake to collect donations and burn them on satoshidice (source: some post on reddit that I can't find now).

I like electrum because it effectively spoofs your IP address, for added security.
