Title: BTC-E
Post by: squatz1 on May 14, 2016, 09:53:54 PM
Has anyone ever heard of or used BTC-E. It seems to be the only way to convert your bitcoins from a wallet to USD in paypal. Is it trustworthy, and is there a better way?

Yes, BTC-e is a very trustworthy exchange.
It's one of the top Bitcoin exchanges.

I've used it many times to trade BTC-USD.
I'd recommend it. ;D

Yes it's the first exchange I've ever used and it's been around for a long time.
It has been operating smoothly ever since.
One of the few exchanges you can actually use! Just don't store coins on any exchange if you wanna be on the safe side.

Yes, I agree.
But if you do store some coins to trade, always use 2FA.

This is what happens if you don't use 2FA:

keep in mind that Paypal doesn't allow BTC exchanges and you may be blocked.

also, BTC-e is not financial licensed in Cyprus, the country where they are registered :)

BTC-E is like the most trusted unregulated exchange there is.

Thank you for the info. Dealing with BTC-e needs to be careful but seems there are happy customers here.I may try there services in the future when need arises, for some minimal amount first.

I have never had a problem with them.
Some of the BTC-e support people do not speak good English, so some people freak out quickly and assume a scam.

No it's not, there's are still many service that also be able to do that. You can use Wirex or advcash that actually do the same thing as it is.

They are online and doing fine since 2011, they are one of the oldest bitcoin exchange out there. Just because they are created by Russian/eastern European people doesn't mean they are not trustworthy.
I've seen people sweetalking you in perfect English into obvious scams so language  has nothing to do with them being legit or not.

It's not the only way to convert between bitcoin and Paypal. Localbitcoins also does the job for you, and you generally get a more personal trading experience on localbitcoins.

On the trust side of BTC-e... I've used it couple of times, no problems at all. They have been one of the oldest exchanges around as well. But after what happened to Cryptsy and Bter I'd be careful with all exchanges. BTC-e is located in Bulgaria, they're not that active socially. They have practically no AML or KYC restrictions. You're better off using a more legitimate service like Circle or Coinbase, just in case they pull off a scam.

BTC-E is a good exchange, I would recommend it. You can also use cryptonit.net for selling your bitcoins using PayPal.

I didn't mean it that way. I have seen more than one person 'screaming' "BTC-e froze my account"/ "won't release my funds", etc, and it was likely a case of broken communication, instead of something worse.

If they will pull off a scam it will be the longest lasting exit scam in the history of Cryptocurrencies for sure. And this exchange was attacked by hackers before.
They recovered without taking even 1 satoshi from their customers (unlike some other bigger exchanges in similar situation).

On high volume days, they make a huge pile of profits!
I wasn't aware they were hacked, maybe it happened when I wasn't around for a few months.

They were attacked in mid 2012 and had their Liberty Reserve API Key compromised, the attacker created thousands of fake dollars and pumped them into the site and used it to disrupt the markets.
A significant amount of Bitcoins were stolen during the attack (1 BTC was worth less than $10 back then IIRC, so number of BTC stolen was huge), maybe around $40k were taken in Bitcoins.
The attacker is still unknown.

yeah btc-c.com is a legit exchanger that has been around for a long time. and i have used them before and i am using it from time to time.
although i suggest you be careful when using paypal with these services since it is not really in their TOS to use bitcoin in any way.

BTC-E is one of the oldest and most trusted bitcoin exchanges out there. I'm sure it's safe. But so but so was gox. So don't keep your bitcoin on an exchange longer than you have to.

Yes i have also used them for years without problem and they are very trusted by bitcoin community. Don't ever try other services which claim to exchange your bitcoin to paypal, most of or all of those services may turn out to be as scam.

Personally I think Localbitcoins.com is just as safe, I've used them plenty of times to buy/sell Bitcoins using PayPal and I've never encountered any problems. If you're lucky sometimes you can even get better rates than the current market rate. The only advice I would have is to only deal with trusted traders with 100% positive feedback and a decent number of successful trades under their belts (I try as far as possible to pick traders with 1000+ trades).

I have been their customer for a few years. They are very trusted if you care about history of an exchange. I myself probably will not store too much money/Bitcoin in any exchange, since you should not trust anybody, any exchange with your life.

yeah, BTC-e is one of the old and trusted exchangers.

although I personally have only used their BTC-e code to sell or better said turn USD to my local currency. it is so much easier than withdrawing fiat USD (-fee) then selling that to local currency (-fee), because the code doesn't have any fee!

I have used their service few times and never had any problem with them. Exchange went on smoothly and without any problem.

My last exchange was around 3 months ago, so don't know about current status. But you can try with a small amount at first if you want to be sure about their status.

I have heard about and used BTC-e before. However I have found Coinimal to be a better way of exchanging Bitcoins to PayPal. Pus they offer support for Skrill and Neteller as well which are some of the most popular payment processors around.

btc-e is a safe exchange platform , with long years of experience and a large volume of exchange, but you must watch to the security of your account(very important). where there is much of money there is too much predator.
