Title: How can I limit my Nvidia GTX 970M for altcoin mining? (computer too slow)
Post by: goldcode on May 15, 2016, 01:35:11 PM
Hello I am mining altcoins with my Nvidia GTX 970M. But now my computer is too slow to do anything else with it. Even surfing in the internet needs patience.

Is there a solution that I can limit my grapgics card to e. g. 90% instead of 100% for mining? Or to reduce the graphics power my computer needs?

Thank you!

You can lower the intensity with the -i parameter but most algos have different default intensities.

Try something like -i 16 and work your way up or down depending on how responsive your system is (or check the GPU usage with something like GPU-Z).

If you go for too high intensity your GPU driver will crash.

The thing is if you are mining altcoins with your 970M, you would be better off doing someother stuff with the time you could have better spend elsewhere like providing services, learning new skills, or even enriching yourself. The amount of power spend against your hashrate and coins gotten is not a good trade.

@bathrobehero
YES! That's exactly what I have looked for. Thank you very much :)

@Quartx
Thank you too for your time you invest to help me. But that's not part of my question. I have a reason why I have asked this. My strategy is to mine completely new coins before there can be traded on an exchange. My 970M is more than enough for that :-) Ok we can discuss if this is a good strategy or not. But in another thread :)
