Title: Just wondering
Post by: sebi12391 on May 17, 2016, 04:46:54 PM
Should I invest in a asic bitcoin or litecoin miner. Another question is that is there any alt-coins that are worth mining with a GPU (AMD 5970) ???

Litecoin Mining will probably be more profitable

Your question is too generic.

Read up on the mining section of this forum, and dig around which you`ll find most answers.

Because it really goes further to the question of which alt coin you should mine and for what reasons behind it.

Please go with ASIC, GPU will only reduce your success rate on the long run.

leave asic alone, waste of time, invest in gpu, etheruem is fucking profitable still, you can do average of $70 per month with a single gpu and very cheap electricity, nothing can beat this at the moment

with a rig of six gpu we are talking about doing $400 per month, always with cheap electricity

yeah I agree with this. these days you have a better chance of making profit with a good GPU (which you can also use for gaming) and mining altcoins. and eth is one of those.

you can also check out this site: www.coinwarz.com for more information about all the crypto currencies that can be mined and do some calculation with their mining calculator here: http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators

Your going to get a little more with getting yourself a litecoin miner instead of bitcoin. After that just use an online exchange and get bitcoins for those mined coins. Ethereum is still could be a good one when you mined using GPU.

yes it is, made 1.5 btc in two months with my 4 gpu, it's really worth it yes, no doubt, etheruem is still very profitable, up to 700k satoshi for every gpu, like 280x or akin

Ethereum mining could still be profitable, however the profits will soon be dead just like bitcoin. If you don't have a large enough network of miners, with cheap electricity and all, you won't have any advantage over other miners.

I don't think it's a good time right now to enter the mining market. Simply too unprofitable.

It doesn't look to be the right time to make a good profit on mining. Better is to involve into mining after the days of halving. Now you can buy possible amount of bitcoin to get a good profit as halving is gonna happen within few months.

Why do newbies all the time think about mining? Its like common folk would say, i want dig up gold... then would buy pickaxe and go to random cave to dig and try to find gold...
Just dont...

those common folk did exactly as you say, they picked up a pickax and went digging for gold. but they did it a long time ago when gold was not being mined as it is today and mioning it was a new thing.

that is just like mining crypto-currencies these days. it is a new thing and before mining farms appear everybody could mine bitcoin and now there are still chances to mine altcoins with GPU.

Even if someone will try to answer your question it will be only speculation. Rules of mining are based on risk. If you select a coin whose price is high, you  risk that the price will fall. If you select a coin whose price is low, you risk that it will never grow .. Welcome to cryptocurrency world  ;D

Litecoin Mining will probably be more profitable
I am currently mining both and Litecoin is more profitable at this time to mine.  I am not working with a machine like you mentioned, mine is a bit older, but it is still worth the time to try and play with it.  If you have another machine laying around, try both!!

Just get good GPU/s equivalent to the amount u going to invest in asic. you can then mine the most profitable coins. Be like early adopter then sell later.

The problem is the risk that the new coin will be forgotten, and we only lose time and we will have to pay for electricity. Being early adopter now is completely different than it was few years ago.
