The Bitcoin protocol are programmed to release a specific amount of coins every 10 minutes.. more or less as a reward for miners doing the work and solving the complex mathematical computations.

It started out with 50 bitcoins and then it halved to 25 and now it is going to be halved again. It was done on purpose to simulate something like gold. A commodity that runs out over time.. if it was

not for that... and the capped 21 million coins.. bitcoin would have had little value. { It's about scarcity and supply and demand } Hope I kept it simple enough.  ::)

Actually to reduce something by half or divide something into two equal pieces,

I will try to explain - to create Bitcoin developers were given the condition that every four years, mining Bitcoins will be reduced by half. This is Halving.
If you do not go into details, but now every time miners find Bitcoin block - they have been rewarded with 25 Bitcoins, and after Halving will receive 12.5 per Bitcoin block found.
In other words, for the same amount of power and the same work performed will be produced exactly half Bitcoins!
When happen Halving Bitcoin? - July 13, 2016.
And what will happen after Halving Bitcoin? Nobody really knows, but of course everyone expects that the price of Bitcoin will grow significantly. For reference - Halving after the last (in 2012) the price of Bitcoin in a very short time has grown from $ 12 to $ 1,000.

main reason for growth: miners have only half the bitcoins to dump in order to cover their costs --> some (western) miners will also have to stop mining and difficulty can go down.

The halving will reduce the supply of the new bitcoins, it could increase the price if the demand is the same.

Supply attributed to mining is very small compared to the total supply. Mining has little effect on the price now.

The halving will reduce the supply of the new bitcoins, it could increase the price if the demand is the same.

While the supply of new bitcoins (generally referred to as "production") is halved, the supply of bitcoins increases every block whether the reward is 25 BTC or 12.5 BTC. The supply never decreases because bitcoins are not consumed.

So, in your scenario, if the demand is the same after the halving, then the price will fall because the supply continues to rise.

I see, the total supply of the bitcoin will also rise. If you want the price to rise $1, the whole market cap will rise 15 million.

Halving is a event in bitcoin that happens every 4 years.During this event bitcoin blocks are divided into half making bitcoin harder to mine for bitcoin miners out there. But halving for stock holders and normal traders can be profitable, because during halving bitcoin price may rocket up making good profits for traders, but in the other hand bitcoin can be a lost because there is still a chance that bitcoij price may go down.

The bitcoin halving is a phenomenon where the block rewards of the miner will divided by two (2) and it happened every four year. I think it's one of the best choice to sell bitcoin after halving because you can make a lot of money from it, imagine you buy your bitcoin at the price of $450 and after halving the price of the bitcoin will rise upto $1200 just like what happened before (november 2013). So if you sell it at $1200 per piece you profit will be $750, that's a huge amount of profit!

No. Bitcoin blocks are not divided in half. The subsidy is divided in half.

No.  Mining does not get harder. In fact, it will probably get easier as miners start turning off equipment and the difficulty drops.

Halving is a once every 4 years event that halfs mining subsidy and the time when bitcoin's price rises drastically and then goes back to normal or drops drastically after halving.  ;D

difficult never drop too much, just small correction, price is increase so the halving will not force miner to leave, the diff will likely be higher than today, so i think you're wrong on your second point

The halving is an event where the block reward gets cut in half every 210.000 blocks and where all Bitcoiners around the world are making huge fireplaces, dancing around it to invoke the ghost of Satoshi Nakamoto!! ;)

When happen Halving Bitcoin? - July 13, 2016.

To be precise, the next halving will happen when block 420.000 is mined, which might happen in July, although the precise date depends on the speed of the next blocks. With block 420.000, we will enter the third reward era (12.5), after the 50 and 25 reward eras.

Halving means that there are not enough blocks ready where the miner can pick sort of coins you know. So the miner needs to search allot more longer then he did before that causes slower bitcoin mining.

yes, it's true, and would probably make a good effect on bitcoin. such as price increases, but until now no one knows the extent to which prices will stop increasing bitcoin

With the halving it gets way harder to earn Bitcoins but I believe that the value stays the same. Sinds people are holding not every Bitcoin is usable which is effecting the market somehow.

Wrong. Jesus, people. Halving means that the block reward will be reduced by HALF. The block generation won't be directly affected by it.

The halving is when the payment a miner recieves after mining a block is halved. Also known to bitcoiners as halving the supply of bitcoin.

I recently wondered also what is halving,im still new to bitcoin so i search and ask people about it and what i learned to them is halving is an event which bitcoins block/supply are divided keeping it on demand and making its price rise up just likevwhat happened last halving year 2012.Halving from what miners says is not profitable for them because halving will cause bitcoin harder to mine

Title: Re: Whats's halving?
Post by: Nowl1935 on June 29, 2016, 11:06:05 AM

Halving when the rewards dropping, the price cannot stay the same thing if the hashrate does. We will all be mining at a loss, and for those that rely on it as a business, this cannot hsppen. At some point the hashrate and price will meet, whether the hashrate halves and price remains the same, or the hashrate stays the same and the price doubles, we don't know.
Put it this way, if it costs me £150 in electricity alone, I will not sell my mined coins for less because I don't need to. If a business is in the situation where they need to sell to cover costs, then they won't be in business long.

Many peopel thinks that halving means that the bitcoin will half their amount so that he will be 300 dollar instead of 600 but that is not the meaning of halving. The halving wont affect the price much
because the hallving only affects people who are mining coins they need to search many times longer for a coin than they did before the halving.

Halving does not mean that the price of the bitcoin will be halved because that would be to easy than you are not asking us what is halving otherwise you would be very stupid. The halving has nothing
to do with the value of the bitcoin it will only affect the bitcoin miners you know.

I agree with you. Even though many users are saying that halving is one of the best opportunity to earn some good profits i think i doubt that because if you are not smart on choosing when you gonna sell your coins you will left behind and get less profit than what other sellers get. well at least not direct one as bitcoin price will change, and it will be good for us as price of bitcoin should rise, so miners will get same amount of profit, so it will be good for us

yeah there will be a perfect competition after halving, in which there are large numbers of identical suppliers and demanders of the same product, buyer and sellers can find one another at no cost, and no barriers prevent new suppliers from entering the market.

The code stipulates that only 21 million can be for the entire life cycle of bitcoin, coins common issue.
The limitation related to mining bitcoin, was aimed at countering the endless printing of paper money.

Every time a new unit is added to the bitcoin network only obtained bitcoin reward to go to a miner who got them. The award, originally was 50 of BTC, then the end of 2012 dropped to 25 of BTC, and the next month is planned to decline to 12,5 BTC. This event is known as the "Halving».

Yeah that's right the price will possibly rise after halving but you can't be sure that it will only go for that direction because the price is only depending on demand and supply so if many holders of bitcoin will sell all their coins and it will result for a massive drop which is opposite on what you're thinking.

The thing is the longer bitcoin exist the more demand it creates and it is very simple to spot the result when you study economics, the basic principle should apply on the law of demand and supply, with halving it would only mean that supply will be short because many are holding.

HAL/VING    HALVING  The same but translated in terms of reward.

Edit: The Bitcoin block mining reward halves each 210K blocks, in this halving the coin reward will decrease from 25 to 12.5 coins(Next halving will happen on less of seven days from now).

For me block halving is one o the event where bitcoin block will be half from 25 btc to 12.5 btc thats why the price of bitcoin will increase more because our supply reduce from 25 btc to 12.5 btc.. its easy to understand what block halving is.. the word halving considering half.. block is where our source where we can mine bitcoin.. each block has 25 btc as of now after block halving per block reward should be 12.5 btc..

For me block halving is one o the event where bitcoin block will be half from 25 btc to 12.5 btc thats why the price of bitcoin will increase more because our supply reduce from 25 btc to 12.5 btc.

Please don't confuse supply with production. The production is cut in half, but the supply is not. The supply continues to increase toward 21 million.
True, the production will be affected due to difficulty in mining while the expenses of the miners will eventually increase so it is important that this halving should bring the price to increase to maintain the profitable operation of the miners.

Sorry to disagree with you. The importance of keeping certain miners mining is debatable. If the price does not increase, then the inefficient miners will drop out, making is more profitable for efficient miners to start or continue mining.

Agree with you, less and more efficient(Include speed and energy efficiency on it)  powerful miners, they seem to be the future of mining.

So if that's the case then it is more profitable to invest in legitimate cloud mining operation than having your own mining operation not meeting the qualification of efficient miners.
