Title: Can't send BTC from wallet
Post by: azul on May 25, 2016, 06:09:42 PM
I'm using coinb.in and I have coin in there, which I received no problem.  I can't seem to send any out.  I've tried several addresses and several amounts.  It acts like it is going to send then it shows me "The raw transaction we tried to send".  No amount is ever deducted though.  Any ideas?  Any way to force the transaction?

I haven't used coinb, here's a thing you can try.. get the private key of address(which has balance). import the private key to blockchain/electrum and then send your balance to whichever address you like.

Maybe you can ask for some help here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=390046.0
Its their thread, so I guess you have a better chance of getting help or meeting someone with the same issue with you there.

Thank you all!  I was able to use the private key and import it and the balance into blockchain.info.

Thanks again!

Is it safe to use a web-based generated address & private key for long term personal use? Who knows the site owner could just sweep it all away.

Perhaps OP should generate a non-web based personal address for better peace of mind.

Of-course it is not safe, even though Blockchain and Coinb.in claims that the keys are generated client side and they receive no copies of it but still there have been instances (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303726.0) where the wallets were compromised due to the fault of user/blockchain? not sure.. But if you must use it, at-least take the time to back-up your keys and enable 2fa which should add some security. Also, only keep coins for your daily usage there, preferably less than 0.1  BTC.

You can use electrum wallet to generate address and i think those address are not registered anywhere other than your electrum software. But its always prefered to download paper wallet generator script and create address in computer which is not connected to internet if you want to securely store for longer period.

Thank you all!  I was able to use the private key and import it and the balance into blockchain.info.

Thanks again!

If you can success to transfer to blockchain wallet, then create electrum wallet for desktop, transfer your BTC to electrum Wallet, don't worry you will not download 20gb++ data. Also electrum have high security system.

I've read a couple of times that coinb.in isn't safe... But it depends on how you use it, i suppose.
I've used coinb.in several times, but i downloaded their sourcecode from github and ran it on an offline pc as soon as my private key got involved... Since i didn't use coinb.in to generate said private key, i think it's a pretty safe procedure.

@OP: if you continue having problems with coinb.in, i'd be happy to try to help you out... I can generate a transaction and send it to you... You can verify and sign it, when you send the signed back to me, i can try to broadcast it.

Online wallets are generally not very preferable solution. Cold storage is something I always go after.

And what will you do if tomorrow the same kind of error will appear on blockchain.info? Why people are so short sighted and still using online serviced to keep all theirs coins?
We have amazing lightweight software SPV wallets available, why not use them? It will definitely upgrade over any pure online wallet solution.
