Title: Can Armory import my paper backup from StrongCoin? Post by: xiz on March 02, 2013, 11:30:44 PM When importing a wallet from paper backup, Armory asks for the "Root Key" and the "Chain Code"
The paper backup from StrongCoin lists the "Public Address", "Private Key Encrypted", and "Checksum". What values correspond with what Armory is asking for? (is this even possible?) And Armory does let you import private keys, just that they aren't recoverable from the deterministic key and you actually need to maintain backups just like with any other client. I've done the import of my private key into Armory using the 'sweep' option. Did I understand correctly that because I swept it I don't have to maintain individual backups of the private key, it's now fully controlled by my Armory wallet? (For other newbs) - To import a private key using Armory you need to create a wallet first. Then in wallet properties choose the "Import/Sweep Private Keys" option. Then go though the sequence of dialogs to choose various options. The options seem well explained and I have no additional insight into them. Sweep just means it moves the payment received to an address generated by Armory. Once the funds are swept (to an address generated by Armory itself) you no longer need the private key for the address and thus could get away without making a backup for that -- unless you later were to receive a payment to that address for the private key again at some point in the future.
