Im not sure what your budget is but this might be your best option as any less expensive 4 slot board with the right spacing is out of stock.

There are also some 790FX and 890FX boards that come with 4 PCIE slots.  Here's a cheap one:

I have MSI's 790FX board.  Something you may want to consider is cooling: I've found that having more than two in a box gets hot quickly.  I needed a household fan blowing on em constantly or they would crash.  So I've settled on two to a box now.

Wow, didn't know so many people were going for this now.  I've managed to set one up here's (http://silasx.blogspot.com/2011/05/bitcoin-mining-rig-is-up.html) what it looks like, parts list in the comments.  But be warned: you NEED liquid cooling if you want to cram that many that close together!

Nice rig.  How much was the liquid cooling system, that is, if you don't mind revealing that info?

Nice setup. What OS are you running those on? If you're getting 1.3 GH/s from 4 cards, I take it your not overclocking?

I've bolded the watercooling-specific items, which together sum to $714 (not including shipping).

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, and I've since started overclocking, so I get 1.65 GH/s.  But I'm only overclocking it to the top of the OEM-specified band, I don't know how to make it go higher, as some of the other miners in the comparison chart seem to.

Did you actually run it on air for any period? How long until it overheated? Was it with stock coolers?

That board only has two pci-e slots which can be used with video cards.

Question: can either windows or linux support this many GPUs, and does the BIOS?

Yep, it's quiet.

I tried running the four of them on air.  Bad idea.  Once you start hashing, the hottest one, within about 15 seconds, exceeds 90 C and just keeps getting hotter.  So for a while I just ran two, and they'd still get hot, with the hotter one at about 85 C.  And that's of course without overclocking.;  Once I set up the liquid cooling with overclock, I could do four and keep them at about 65 C.

And yes, it's expensive, but the system has more than paid for itself, even ignoring the resale value of the system.

Im currently setting up a 3 x 6950 rig - waiting on PCIx1 risers.  Im hoping that, assuming I set them nicely spaced in the case, air cooling should still just about work.  If not, $700 hit incoming :).

What are riser cables exactly? I've never used them, got a link where I can buy? Why do I need them in the first place, and is it just for that CPU? I also only see two slots.. o.O

it allows you to place the card farther away from the motherboard so you can plug more GPU's into a motherboard without the space restrictions between slots where a dual slot card will not fit.

they stay very cold like this.  i have a homemade aluminum frame 2 level case with these.  2 cards and the power supply on the top level and 2 cards and the motherboard on the bottom level.  the bottom cards are plugged into the 16x ports and the top cards are on extenders plugged into the 1x ports. they have about an inch between them and the temps are about 15 degrees colder than when i had them back to back.

the case is a few inches bigger than the motherboard and is about 13-14" tall.  basically a cube with fans on the front blowing through

If you are using risers on pci-e 1x slots for video cards, then you're killing the bandwidth. Might as well chop the card in half while you're at it.

its a 100% mining rig  i could care less all i am after is Mh/sec

my money is on GD70. 4~6 cards depending on ur config.

how do you power that?

How do you guys get around the issue of not having enough PCI-E connections? I have a 850W PSU which should be able to manage 3x5870. But it only has enough PCI-E cables for 2 cards. Are these adapters fine :

getting 260 Mhash/sec out of each one, with 875 core clock and 900 mem clock, running at 59-64 C.  ::shrug::
