Title: A digital item was sold for $55,000! (CS:GO Skin)
Post by: Equinoxx on May 29, 2016, 08:29:25 AM
The item that was sold was a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive skin.
Sold for $55,000 by a collector and purchased by: http://steamcommunity.com/id/DeeNice23/inventory/

This is the skin:

There are morons all over the world who can spend money in the most foolish ways.  :P

I wish I was the seller of this foolish item. 55k USD is big and it is 3.6 million in my local currency. I could have bought a superbike of my choice.

I find it difficult to understand why somebody would do that. Buy stuff from a game that can be replicated by the owner at any given time. It's just pixels on the screen, and it's not like bitcoin, which is decentralized.

Anyhow, congratulations to the buyer. I know that these items are difficult to acquire and go for a big price. Hopefully he can get rid of it when it comes to the time.

what does the user do with a steam account with 55k usd in it. unless the sale was made privately. one thing is for sure, that guy will never have to pay for a steam game ever again.

i have seen high price items especially those that are rare or have some special thing on them like a signature but never this much

Yeah, CSGO skins are extremely collectible and it's no big surprise that people are willing to pay that much money for it. I think they view it as a race, competition between the elite collectors.

They should really be focusing more on bitcoin though, as gaming just wastes money and time.

They're not morons, this item can be sold to another person for profits. The item market on Steam fluctuates like the btc market does, and it can double the price at any time.

I myself buy a few items and sell it for real money, not Steam money, since you can't cash out on Steam. There's a huge market for this.

Why? Just why would these Rich Russians buy a CS go skin for $55k it's not like the skin is very exceptional but even of it is 55k is simply outrageous.

Well there are people with a lot of money to spend on things they deem to be precious so I wouldn't condemn anyone for this I guess  ;D By the way where was the exchange conducted? Was it on the Steam market or off Steam and how did the buyer pay for that skin? For that much money $55k I would think he had used a bank transfer or something. Now if he had paid for that with Bitcoin it would have been bloody impressive right?  :o

The thing is - the rare blue pattern on the playside makes this knife EXTREMELY rare. 1 in the world. 100% blue Playside and on the ring.
$55k was the transaction XD

The pattern is very unique. 1 in the world. I can't understand the price as well. A souvenir Dlore Factory new is only $20k... but there a about 4 of those. Only 1 of these.

It just only means that he is a fanatic player of cs go. Spending thousands of dollar for a digital item proves that he is truly rich and at the same time a really weird guy on other people perspective.
Looks like to boast on other cs go player is worth $55,000 for him :o

yeah there are a lot of people who actually spend that much money on the games as they want to get full collections or something like that though i doubt its worth the money and efforts

i would never buy such an item for so much money in my opinion, first of all i wouldnt have anywhere to use it as i dont play that game and secondly i need more money for a living

I wasn't shocked after reading this. There are tons of CS:GO fans/players out there. They don't actually mind buying an item there that costs a lot simply because they know that they can sell it one day especially if that item is limited. These kind of items are just like the items in the real world which you can sell it after a long time. You just hold on to it for a long time and then if the item is on demand and you put it in auction, then surely your money will double or even triple.

I can see why people want to do crazy stuff like that.... I played a strategy MMO and you buy crystal packs in the game, to enable you to grow much faster and also add crazy looking skins

for your castles and hero's. I just cannot see why someone would dump $55k into a damn dagger... that is just crazy... yes small amounts like $10  to $100 .... but not $55k ...Wow.

Unfortunately that game, do not accept Bitcoin, which is a pitty, because it give loads of fun and entertainment.  ;D ;D ;D .... If we get one of these games to start accepting Bitcoin, the price would

skyrocket... lot's of kids with loaded pockets, but not allowed to use it, because of age restrictions.

Secondly life is mad.  The amount people spend on virtual property is unbelievable but they do make money out of it from those who visit their property/planet.

Well in this case, if he can afford 55k on a skin then I'm sure that his bank balance is pretty deep.

It's too much money, anyone w/ the slightest brain can see that - but! There is a glimmer of good news about things like this.

It shows virtual world economies, lifestyles, the concept of earning a living exclusively via work in virtual worlds ; as well as, by consequent, more in-depth virtual realities, eventually leading to full-immersion VR, are well in progress!

This is the dream. The sacred vision of the future all us cyberpunks/gamers/anime fans/many other circles have longed for since the '80's.

That's pretty much how I looked at this - Bitcoin is being used in a different marketplace. I thought this was good news.
But I am still baffled with a purchase for just pixels... $55k is ridiculous

the business can afford a Ferrari :)

But this here is a item from a game called counter strike...
That's not impossible either. People are really smart nowadays and use whatever platform to transfer money, even through games. I mean, just imagine that the seller and the buyer are mates, and just used CS:GO to transfer funds.

it's called advanced money laundering

it's also a way of hiding drug purchases

Hey the accountant won't let u waste business

money but u arranged with the car dealer

if u buy his $300,000 Ferrari

their will be a nice big bag of stuff in the boot

now u just need to convince the accountant that

the business can afford a Ferrari :)

This is true. The less people that play CS:GO = a drop in price of skins - Not necessarily! People believe it or not, actually trade CS:GO items as a job, and example would be a user named cAre. His inventory is worth around $200k and trades daily.

As for the knife, the pattern is one in the world. Extremely rare.

It's debatable. Personally I agree with the fact that this is insanely high priced. But I find it completely normal to have skins worth $5k-10k.

I highly doubt that, purely because the Dubai collector that sold the knife is extremely reputable.

You suggestion isn't a bad one though :D

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Obviously the money wasn't doing anything useful where it was before - may it find a better home.

No need to play, you can invest some money and start trading in steam.
